Is there a way to cancel transaction after an Unpaid Item Case was open?
The buyer contacted me after I opened the case. We agreed to cancel the transaction/order. Is there a way to close the case and just cancel transaction?
Or do I have to wait for 4 days?
And does the buyer get a strike after that? I think the buyer is being honest, and I don't want to give him a strike or bad feedback.

No, you can only open one or the other. So, you will need to complete the one you already opened in order to get your fees credited. They will get a strike but you can't give them bad feedback regardless of how it plays out.

You could explain to the buyer that this is the way the system is set up. You had no way of knowing the reason why they didn't pay up front if they didn't reach out to you and now there is no way to close the UPI case. This way they won't hold it against you....

My suggestion is to let it play out, then follow up with eBay customer service to see if defect removal can remove the strike.
A few years ago I bought 30 items and the system got wonky and doubled the quantity (it was new coins that she had in quantity on each listing). She decided to go with out of stock reason to cancel the transaction and gave herself 60 defects. (It was a buyer requested cancellation so I could repurchase without eBay errors). I followed up with eBay with all the details to explain what happened and that the seller did the OOS by mistake (she was trying to avoid me getting any penalty for cancelling), and I got a ticket number for the seller to follow up on if the defects weren't removed.
