I recently sold a guitar on here and have been unable to contact the buyer. I sent an invoice and Ebay has sent their notices as well. I am not incapable of waiting over the weekend or even a few days for payment. Just for future reference how long must I wait to cancel the order and relist? I don't mind the listing fees, which I believe is 0....but in the past I recall being very upset with Ebay for charging final value fees on items that never received payment. Back then you had to file a claim to get your fees back and it was not a very straight forward process that was time sensitive. You could easily wait to long for a buyer to pay and it cost you a hefty fee. I ultimately left the platform just for that reason, I assumed it was just something about my listings that attracted so many nonpaying buyers, but here I am again 7 sales deep into a new account and my very first auction is still awaiting payment. It has only been 2 calendar days.... personally I pay for an item as soon as the auction ends so as to get the item as soon as possible, am I the odd man out here? What is the process to cancel without paying fees?
A PERSON COULD BE VERY SUCCESSFUL SELLING ON EBAY IF
1. YOU ALWAYS GET DISCOUNTED SHIPPING RATES (Ebay advertises their own rate that they do not always honor after the sell)
2. BUYERS HAD TO HAVE PAYMENT AVAILABLE TO MAKE A BID that was immediately charged to that account when the auction came to an end. I believe there is an option buried in settings somewhere to require a payment method to place a bid, but no option to demand immediate payment. Ebay could very easily hold funds in escrow until the item is delivered (they do this anyways). They have done a very good job of preventing random accounts from making phony sales, but have not put any protections for sellers in place using the exact same methods. Explain to me how there is any possible way for a new seller to scam so much as a single penny..... see how you cant do it? It is time that Ebay put protections in place for sellers old and new.
I would happily let Ebay hold funds until a product was delivered if it meant that I was guaranteed that a winning bid would be honored.

@artfrom89
You don't pay any final value fees until the buyer pays with the managed payment system. The "cancel for non-payment" option appears for you to select on Day 5. You can set this as an automatic option (choose up to 30 days) or do it manually. This replaces the old unpaid item dispute format.

After four days you can cancel the transaction for nonpayment to give the buyer a strike and prevent feedback from being left by either party. If you cancel earlier or for other reasons, the buyer will not get a strike.
Add the user to your Blocked Buyer List to prevent that particular user from bidding on or buying any more of your listings, regardless of what other sellers do.

Be sure to set your Buyer Requirements to preemptively block bids or purchases from users with two or more unpaid item strikes in the last year.
You can avoid unpaid items by listing your item for a fixed price with immediate payment required and by not accepting offers. If you receive an offer you would like to accept, lower your buy it now price to the offer amount to preserve the immediate payment requirement.

I'm almost certain that you can't revise a listing that has an active offer.

Good point. You may have to explicitly reject the offer or wait for it to expire in order to change the buy it now price of the listing.

Non paying buyers:
From what I'm seeing you can't actually cancel the order due to non-payment in the auction. The only choices are defective item, bad address, and buyer's request. Makes it look like it's your fault the order was cancelled. Getting to be an epidemic of deadbeats out there seems like.

Sellers can cancel for nonpayment once the four days the buyer has to complete payment has passed.

The choice to cancel for "Buyer hasn't paid" shows up if they don't pay within 4 full days (i.e., 96 hours). You have to wait out the 4 days before you get the option to cancel due to nonpayment.
If you send a combined invoice for multiple purchases, the clock re-sets and you have to wait 4 days after the invoice is sent. There has been some debate about whether the clock re-starts if you send an invoice for just a single item. Anyway -- don't send invoices, just wait until the option "Buyer hasn't paid" shows up.
