The Canadian government sent Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers to arbitration and the postal service will be operational tomorrow, Tuesday December 17.
If you have a Canadian customer whinging, let them know.
The crown corporation will be accepting lettermail Tuesday and Wednesday, but no new packages until Thursday.
At issue in the strike is not only money—workers argue they need more due to inflation, and management argues it is losing too much—but also the conditions of the work. That includes internal sorting processes, the physical demands of routes, temporary disability pay, weekend work, and use of temporary vs. full-time employees.
The last issue was a problem unsettled during the last labour dispute, when management went on strike and locked out the workers.

Strange how some sellers from Canada did "Time Away" I noticed until December 17th-18th.
I can't imagine the backlog of the mail and hopefully all will be normal in...a week?

Backlog probably exists multiple places both inside and outside of Canada. Not sure if USPS was holding mail bound for Canada at US post offices or if they were forwarding it to one central postal facility. The same would apply to other countries as well. Then there is the backlog of outgoing packages from Canada and all the stuff people had simply not taken to the Canadian post office because it was not going anywhere. I would imagine it will be more than a week to get the backlog worked off especially this time of year.

From the latest update on the Canada Post negotiations page, they will not be accepting new mail until Thurs. Dec. 19.
According to a news report on the CBC, USPS has not been accepting mail for Canada, but there will be a significant backlog that made it into the USPS system before that, in addition to mail which has been stranded within the Canada Post system, which will all have to be dealt with before new mail can start moving.

Thanks for posting, I was going to make a post here today but you beat me to it.
At my work we have 7000 letters to mail out, so I imagine things are going to be pretty busy very soon. We're anticipating the huge backlog of letters to start catching up to us in about a week (when we start getting all the mail sent to us during the strike).

Not a chance... but sellers are eager to start making sales and earn money again, so I get why they're doing it. I blocked Canada instead of doing time away (since I'm on the US site for listings, so I can block Canada no problem). I'm going to leave Canada blocked until Christmas time, then I'm going to allow sales to Canada again. I figure by Christmas some of the backlog will be dealt with, and I ship things in letters mostly, so that's better than mailing packages.
I have a Christmas gift for my ex-husband (a DVD series) and some coins from my last trip for his collection and I've been waiting for things to improve with shipping before mailing them.

I'm reopening my listings at about 10 day , so it will be early January before I have time to add any new listings.
I don't want to open everything at once, because then my Fixed Price listings will all be closing at the same time for the next year or more . (My items are longtail. I have sold things that have been in stock for over a decade.)
I also closed all my Promoted Listings, first thing, since Promotions encourage sales, and I did not want to have any sales.
Now I am thinking about a new PL strategy.

I had a couple of Christmas gifts for my G-niece. I was going to ship them with Stallion, but found out that they don't accept personal shipments, only business ones. Kibosh on that idea.
This weekend past, I realized that even couriers were not going to get anything there before Xmas, so I went to Amazon Canada and found some Lego kits that I had already scoped out. Lots of addresses in Canada don't have mail delivery to the house; but it turned out that the address was not even recognized by Amazon. No Amazon delivery either.
I called my niece, who gave me her Dad's address to use, which was acceptable for Amazon delivery. Ordered on Saturday, delivered on Monday. Christmas is saved.
I don't think mail deliveries in Canada will return to normal until after Christmas, or more likely after New Years.
