Hi everyone
Today I was listing an item and when I got to the price part of the listing I noticed this on the right hand side of the page, that I have never seen before. Maybe I just didn't notice it. I posted a screen shot for the doubters as I don't make a habit of making things up.
From what I see ebay is giving you options to add these features, but in this instance, it was already checked off and enabled. I did not enable any of these options and I never would.
I do not accept best offers. I would never allow auto pricing and would not choose it. Same with volume pricing, selling in lots or any of the others, yet it was checked off for me.
This rings familiar when Ebay tried the "Easy pricing" feature a year or so ago, where you allowed Ebay to lower the price of your item. I opted out of that as well, but found it was checked off. Sneaky.
This is unacceptable and I see problems with this once again, especially with new sellers.
Devon@ebay Can you please let me know why this is happening again?
To be clear, if the blue button shows, that means the feature is enabled, correct? Thanks in advance to any and all who reply and are helpful.

Yes, I believe that is correct.
I suppose eBay had two choices when the feature was designed: all on or all off. Maybe they determined a majority of sellers prefer all those features to be activated, so they chose all on.
I agree a number of those options, however, are not ideal in the real eBay-selling world or they don't even apply to certain listings, so now you and others get to spend time disabling them. Woohoo!

Thanks for your reply. That's what I'm doing right now. lol. Like I said earlier this could really raise problems, especially with new sellers. Thanks again.

It means the setting will show by default on the listing form. If you flip it to 'off' then that setting will be hidden. It's customizable and that's a good thing.
From what I've gathered reviewing several different selling accounts, it's not all on or all off. It's more tailored to what that person has used or not used in the past (though not 100% accurate). It only takes a few seconds to customize your settings and once you do that, the settings will "stick" next time you start a new listing.
I don't see how it would be problematic for new sellers - by presenting options like best offer? It's not like eBay is filling out the best offer field or forcing anybody to use it, the form is just showing sellers that the option exists and they can use it if they want to.

Actually, what I'm seeing in your screenshot appears to be targeted specifically towards new/casual sellers. For example, price auto-fill puts in eBay's recommended pricing which is something eBay created for new sellers that don't know how to price their items. (We won't get into the inaccuracy of those price recommendations.)
But when creating a listing, the seller would (if they have any common sense) check that price field before they listed and change things if they didn't want to use eBay's default.
That's the only field that would be auto-filled based on those settings appearing. That and best offer.

I always appreciate you input, but as I posted this was already checked off for me. Had I not noticed that, it would have presented a few problems where my items are concerned. I don't accept best offers because I've been stiffed like many others here on the forum. I would like the option to say yes or no to these features and these features should appear more apparent to the seller, and not have Ebay assume that I'll agree to it or not notice it. It should not be automatically enabled.

Yep, just caught the best offer thing. I agree that it's a big inconvenience for sellers that know what they're doing. It could be that eBay's classifying you as a casual seller because you're low-volume and that's where most problems would arise.
But we also know that eBay will force best offer onto new/casual seller's listings and no matter what they do to try and remove it, the setting keeps coming back. This is not a byproduct of the new listing form, but something that they've been doing for years (and I agree it's not a good thing for offers to be forced).
I'm not defending eBay because I don't agree with forcing things on to new sellers and it stinks that low-volume sellers would get lumped in with new sellers. Just saying this is nothing new. It's what eBay's been doing forever.
Once you turn off those settings, your preferences should stick. If you see anything suddenly creep back (like offers) that means eBay is forcing their will based on how they're classifying your account. 😞

It has been that way for a long time. Surprised you just noticed. Yes, anytime you make a new listing you ALWAYS have to UNCHECK the best offer option. Ebay does that on purpose, especially for those who ask too much for their stuff. They want sales and it is proven, the best way is to allow buyers to make offers.

I believe you are wrong. All listings have a default of best offer. The seller has to uncheck it. New sellers come here daily saying Ebay changed their listing and added it but they never checked when submitting the listing and notice it was added at that time.

What do you mean by " Blue Button"?

Thanks for pointing this out. Perhaps now I can change these settings and swat away some of these annoying listing defaults.

When I said they are not filling out the best offer field I was referring to entering auto accept prices on behalf of the seller.
Yes, they are forcing people to use it - I misspoke initially and posted that in a follow-up if you continue reading down the discussion.
No, ALL listings don't have best offer by default. I've never once had it forced on my listings or had to uncheck it. As I said above, eBay mainly targets both new and low volume sellers with that forced setting.
