Moved back to Europe.
when using a computer a friend gave me, the search is all messed up.
i check what my friends in the US have for sale or sold.
on the the comp, 1 friend has 2 items for sale and none sold.
i search by the user name
i do the same search on the iPad I bought in the US,
she’s got about 20 listed and sold close to 50.
now it explains why my sis could never view/find my items in the past,
she lives in France.
i checked all filters and can assure you nothing limits my search
so what’s up with that?
this is not good news for US sellers doing business abroad.
if an eBay tech is around would like an explanation
thank you.

wrote:I think Ersatz hit the nail on the head. Ebay has said that it can control what is seen, so maybe based on location, which they can tell, you are just getting limited views. Not really crazy with that idea however. When you sell worldwide, you expect your items will be shown worldwide in their entirety not selectively.
Would make sense if I had changed my addresses.
Am still registered in USA
if i bought something would be shipped to Abq Nm.
so why would I get limited views?
also search is fine when using my iPad which I bought in the USA
different when using another device
will post links tomorrow from either device.
well will look again at the settings first
” Lucky” could b right, perhaps I missed something

“We strive to create a marketplace where buyers find what they are looking for. Therefore, the appearance or placement of listings in search and browse results will depend on a variety of factors, including, but not limited to:
buyer's location, search query, browsing site, and history;
item's location, listing format, price and shipping cost, terms of service, end time, history, and relevance to the user query;
seller's history, including listing practices, Detailed Seller Ratings, eBay policy compliance, Feedback, and defect rate; and
number of listings matching the buyer's query.
To drive a positive user experience, a listing may not appear in some search and browse results regardless of the sort order chosen by the buyer.“
I know what the user agreement says.
you are missing the point.
re read what I said earlier

Its due to the the two different machines and ebays harvesting stored info. Your USA machine has info stored from USA your France machine has stored info from France. If you reverse it all items listed in France aren't being shown to USA buyers ebay afterall knows what you might be looking for. If you go to another selling site you'll see info on both machines are the same they aren't harvesting and blocking just harvesting..

When Mom is chatting with child and you're not in the room you have no idea whats being said. Another good example is purchase a used PC from someone who has been suspended and a new harddrive wasn't installed a couple months into it you start asking what did I do? What did I do?

I go back and forth between USA and Russia Federaton several times a year. When I go to log on I get the security alert thing, and the emails saying someone is trying to log onto my account. I go through the verification then I'm fine.....but I really don't buy on Ebay. I have not tried bringing my laptop or I-pad though, Federal border guards would just steal or break them anyway. Are you getting security alert emails?

There is something for apple that is similar to clearing cookers. I forget how though.

A couple of weeks ago a seller was complaining that customers in China were not able to view some of his listings. The listings involved were music CDs. They were able to view his other items, just not these particular CDs. He said there were several customers with the same problem. I don’t know if it ever got resolved. Is your friend in the U.S. selling CDs or DVDs?

I beg your pardon.
You are looking for consistency on a platform that does not provide it.
Cassini shows only what it wants a buyer to see, not necessarily what they are searching for.
Search and browse results will be different on different devices, based on the info i just posted from the UA. Your two devices have different locations, browsing histories, etc. no two devices are going to return the exact same results.
You are asking why. Because it is eBay, you may never know. It placed its full confidence in artificial intelligence and Cassini. This is the result.

Yesterday I'm searching to ID a Waterford pattern. First search returns x items. I add the word crystal to knock out the porcelain pieces, the return count INCREASES. Then I add a few negs knocking out a few common patterns that this one is not, search INCREASES by about 500...go figure.

I understand what you are saying but am trying to figure what is happening. I live in Canada. If I am searching on .com as a Canadian, there are listings that I won't see as the seller does not ship here soI am constantly going back and forth between using a US address to search and a Cdn address to ship. You didn't mention where the friend who gave you the laptop lives but if they live overseas, the default shipping location on that computer might be to where they live. To check this you click on any listing, click on the shipping tab and see if the current shipping location is to the US.
