I heard that they will no longer be offering support for Windows 10 after October 14th. I run almost all my Ebay business on Windows 10 and don't want to change as I have a lot of my business programs on this laptop. I heard that you can pay for extended support for Windows 10 for another year. Does anyone know if this is correct? Has anyone tried to apply for this extension?

It just means they won't be providing any more updates. Your computer will keep working.

You might want to consider buying an antivirus package if you are using Microsoft's now.
I intend to continue to run Win10 for some time. Maybe forever. There are various programs I run which will not run on Win11 and I do not want to buy something else and learn to use it.

You can still run your business, no problem. You can sign up for a year of free extended support updates, but you must have a Microsoft account and use their back-up service unless you live in the EU - they get the free extended support updates without those requirements.

Windows 10 isn't going to just stop working.
It will take at least a year before many (if any) programs will be affected. You can continue to use various browsers, and to answer the antivirus thing, no, the security AV in windows will continue to get updates. Windows itself won't, at least nothing useful. There will still be critical updates I suspect occasionally.
This happened with Windows 7. It didn't blow up either. I have a Windows 7 machine on my other desk that I still use nearly every day, and yes its connected to the internet. I'm able to stream video, play games, (yes online ones) and use the browser and all that, just fine. Only a few websites might have issue and not work, and a few newer programs won't install.
I actually was on eBay with that PC just the other day, via Firefox. Worked fine.
So don't panic.
That said, if your computer is particularly old, it may be time to upgrade anyway just because of its age, more than the OS.
There are various programs I run which will not run on Win11
I'm curious.
What programs? Because I have yet to run into a program that runs on Windows 10 that won't run on 11.
Now, there are some older programs from the Windows 7 era that when the PC got upgraded to 10 the programs continued to run, but that was due to some older libraries still being installed. If you had clean installed 10, the program wouldn't run, until you re-installed the libraries needed. Same thing with 11.
To this day, I can still install a fresh copy of Office 2010 Starter edition. That was phased out after Windows 8. Normally you can't even install it on 10 or 11, but there was a fix where the installer was corrected to allow to run on 10 and 11 just fine and legitimately.
That provides a free copy of Word and Excel 2010. The only edition where they had a free ad-driven version, and it works with both older and newer format files and is compatible with the latest office files still.
But that's only one example.

You don't even have to do that to be honest.
That option is mostly for mission critical needs.

8088 computer running Windows 3.0 will still work just fine. It just will not run any newer programs.

I have a lot of business related programs, I use Wonderlister, Stamps.com, software. I also take photos using a point and shoot Nikon digital camera and load them into the laptop.

Wonderlister:
Stamps.com is just an online website, so not sure why that wouldn't work.
Cameras still work in Windows 11, however if you are using the Nikon software specifically to operate your camera, its possible the version might be older or have an issue. You can review this page for possible specifics for your model of Nikon:

Audible.
Every other OS Microsoft comes out with is rubbish and so of course, Win11 is a bit rubbishy. I resisted changing over on my work PC, but the security problems with using outdated OS's are not worth it.

OP doesn't use the stamps.com website, they use the company's desktop app software. It can be buggy at times and I wouldn't be surprised if it stopped working with Win10 over time due to compatibility issues just like any other software. For the immediate future they should be fine.

We’re planning to switch away from Stamps.com soon precisely because of how buggy the desktop software is. And we’re running Win 11 on all our business computers I think.

Same here, my PC has windows 7 and I don't on upgrading as long as the PC is still working.
It might do things a little slower, but so do I.

I’m still running Windows 8 on my older laptop. I have some programs on it that won’t run past 8. I bought a very inexpensive notebook computer running 11 last year to be able to do some things I couldn’t do on the older one anymore. But things still work on the older one. I just can’t do updates of any programs.
