Can I make this into a viable career?

Possibly generate net worth or is this just a side hobby?

Can I make this into a viable career?

That is totally up to you.  It depends on what you want it to be, what your goals are, how much you list, how much you can sell, what you sell.  Some people sell very successfully, others don't.  Some make it their full time job, others sell occasionally to move unwanted possessions.

Your choice.  Good luck to you, sell it all!

Can I make this into a viable career?

People make selling on eBay a viable full-time job and career every year.  And people fail here in droves every year.

What experience in retail sales do you have behind you?  What will you use for funding to acquire your inventory?  Will you need to hire staff to put up your listings and fill orders, or do you plan to do everything yourself?

What categories will you be selling in?  With millions of OTHER sellers competing with you, how will you position yourself to be noticed, to get the sales over other sellers?

Have you much eBay selling (or even buying) experience, so that you know EBAY and all the policies, rules and regulations that guide you and own you when you sell here?

Sure, you can make a great career here.  Many of us earn our livings on eBay, earn our livings on a combination of eBay and selling at various other places, or earn a nice chunk of our annual incomes from eBay sales to supplement and enrich our financial lives when we add it to some other income source we also enjoy.

But don't just look at this through rose-colored glasses!  There are people who fail at this all the time.  Read here very long at all, and you will recognize how bitter some are because they couldn't make it work for them.  You need to really plan out HOW you are going to make this work, what categories you want to work in and which are better to steer clear of.  You can read the discussion boards and gather a great beginning education from the conversations here, but also explore the sellers and sales happening in the categories that interest you to see who the success stories are, what are they doing that is bringing them sales over all the competitors who aren't getting enough of the sales to stay in business.  Emulate the successful sellers as well as adding a bit of your own twist to your success story and good luck to you.

You will be competing against all other stay at home moms, disabled folks, and retired people. It won't be easy as everyone now days looks to Ebay as a means to make a living instead of getting 9-5 jobs. If you plan to attempt to make a living on Ebay first thing is stay away from what everyone else is trying to make a living selling. Clothes and jewelry are the most over-saturated categories as those are the easiest things to acquire. Good Luck !!!
