Can I change an incorrect item description in the header

I have mistakenly listed an item for sale with the incorrect model number and have only just noticed 4 days into the auction, with three bids on it already. I've added an amendment to the description but it won't let me amend the main description in the field that is locked.

There is a photograph showing the correct model number on the actual item but I don't want to mislead the buyers in the header.

Am I better to end the listing early and relist at a later date?

And if I do that will I lose my 80% seller discount on fees by way of he promotion offered as its first listing? Thank you for any useful answers.

I don't see the item under this ID, so I'll just post a link that might be helpful. >> Revise a listing | eBay

You should definitely end the listing early and relist the item. You can't change the description once there are bids on the item. The people that bid did so based on a different description. The item is very popular so you should have no trouble selling it once it is relisted.

No, ending an auction early when there are already bids is definitely not the best idea.

First you Contact those bidders with the corrected information.

Tell them you are ending the auction for that reason.  This is just to be polite. Invite them to bid on the new auction.

Relist the auction with the corrected title.

Contact the bidders again and give them the new # and title.

Cross all your fingers and toes.

The sooner you do this the better.

Allowing the auction to continue when you cannot supply the product advertised is not going to end well.

That's usually true, BUT in this case where the item is significantly mis-described, the alternative is to take the risk that the auction winner has been misled about the item.  Bidders rarely if ever will come back and heck a description in detail after they have bid, just to see whether there have been any additions.

If the seller does decide to let this auction run its course, they should send a  Message to each of the current bidders, pointing out the new information and offering to cancel their bids for them if they are no longer interested.
