Advantages and disadvantages of "Immediate Payment Required"?

I'm curious what the disadvantages and advantages of "Immediate Payment Required" are and when it's good to use it and when it's not a good idea or shouldn't be used.

For example, I'm assuming if a seller wants to offer discounts - for example, a 10% discount on multiple purchases - that the promotion wouldn't work on listings with Immediate Payment Required? So that would be a disadvantage under that circumstance.

Advantages and disadvantages of "Immediate Payment Required"?

As a seller I use the auction format on most of my listings so it's not an option for that format. Those items that I do use BIN and immediate payment on are mostly single items and I don't offer discounts on multiple purchased I prefer to keep things simple. The few times I had multiple sales to the same individual with immediate payment required it became a bit of a mess since they did not use the shopping cart and paid for each item they purchased. I would up working with the buyer to cancel the orders and created a custom bundle for them. If you are a huge volume seller that may be difficult. I will defer to others who use BIN listing formats that have the ability to purchase multiple items to provide input on how they handle the payment and calculations.

As a buyer, which is infrequent these days, I have tried using the shopping cart for multiple purchases and when the immediate payment requirement was enabled and I purchased the shopping cart the individual shipping costs for each item were in the invoice. I had to work with the seller to cancel and custom bundle the items I wanted. They listed the bundle as BIN with IPR and adjusted shipping costs.

If you set up a promotions discount and the buyers put the items in their cart, the discount will show up there.  Your listings appear to have free shipping so you wouldn't have to worry about having to change the shipping cost for multiple purchases.

If you start charging for shipping and you require immediate payment, it is best to set up combined shipping as buyers will not be able to request a total  in the cart.

The buyer would need to add those multiple purchases into their cart like any other online store.

It's main use it to cut down on non paying bidders and buyers. It also runs off many scammers new sellers attract.   The only down side is it's more trouble if a buyer buys more than one item from you at a time.  That does not happen all that much anyway.

So, if your having non payment issues, I would give it a try.

That helps, and good to have a buyer's perspective too. I definitely want to keep things simple, for me and for the buyer.

I seldom buy here since I took my long break, but when I did it was usually just one item, and I probably won't list in the Auction format, or at least not many items.

So, a buyer can use the shopping cart when buying multiple items with IPR. I didn't realize that, or had forgotten if I did know before. I'm beginning to sell again after a very long break.

Thanks. For now I'm using free shipping but might change that later. Before my break in selling I did have combined shipping presets which I liked using for items with shipping costs in the listing. But I don't remember - and don't think - that I used immediate payment required if it was available then.

When I was actively selling before, non-paying buyers weren't a problem. And usually people only bought one item, seldom multiple purchases. I'm wondering more now because of selling or planning to sell some related items that people might want to combine. As long as they can use the shopping cart and any discounts would be applied to multiple purchases, then everything should be good. I just wasn't sure that was compatible with using immediate payment required. Thanks!
