Should i stick with the same category when selling on ebay or is it okay to keep listing in different categories?Like if i sell clothes should i just stick with that and will it bring in more traffic or will it matter?

Re: CATEGORY

I list what I have to sell.  I'm not a business, just a retired person who is clearing out the inventory of things I haven't sold yet, or personal items I no longer need.

I had to change from a business account to a personal one, because I'm no longer a business for tax purposes, but I have sold a variety of things since starting this new account a few months ago.

I guess it depends on YOU.  Are you trying to be a specialist in one area?  Or are you trying to make some money with things you already own and just don't want/need?  If you were the buyer, would you want to buy from somebody who sells a variety of things, or somebody who only sells one kind of thing?  I don't think there's a right/wrong answer there.  Just figure out who is going to be your buyer, and market yourself to that group.

Re: CATEGORY

That's for the seller to decide.

Some like to stick with the same type of items, some like to sell whatever they can get a hold of.

As far as traffic, if you don't have what a buyer is looking for, it isn't going to matter.

Have A Great Day.

IMHO you should sell anything you can make a sufficient profit on. The category does not matter.

Traffic only matters if it is traffic from people interested in your item. Listing a toaster oven will not attract traffic from people buying clothes - but that is okay, because your toaster oven does not need "traffic" from  people who are not looking for a toaster oven.

IMHO most eBay traffic is driven by search results, not browsing a seller's listings.

Do a little research on the boards (Ebay forum) and on Utube on what problems/pitfalls some categories may have.

Example. Some including myself find clothing to be difficult because of returns (justified or not) that happen more frequently than other categories.

Its a good question and the fact you are researching already will help you. IMHO I think a big factor would be what inventory would be easy for you to source and start there. Obviously some items may be easier than others to obtain/purchase. My specialty is vintage American instruments but when COVID hit, i was forced to broaden my inventory because sourcing became difficult to make a living. (not enough inventory within the region for me to easily purchase) I went full on sell whatever i can make money on and as fun as it was, i would not do it again unless i was forced to. Sometimes staying in your lane (categories you know and can source) will give you the best results.

-Good luck
