I know most of you will have noticed a huge increase in canceled transactions over the past year. My worst day was a month ago with 5 cancelations. I wont get started on the huge increase in fraudulent returns as that's a rant for another day.
I've noticed that some of these buyer cancelations seem to just be used to get free feedback (buying the cheapest item) which is rather annoying since their "free feedback" costs me $0.30 in paypal fees every time. Luckily paypal "for now" backed off on not refunding any fees at all on canceled transactions or it would be a nightmare come true.
eBay needs to remove all feedback when an item is canceled by the buyer and accepted by the seller. That would put a dead stop to people using it for free feedback. In-fact I'd be far more happy if ebay did away with the buyer cancelation option. Its just making buyer less and less responsible, in a world where they barely even read the title let alone the description.
This is not my selling account...

I leave feedback on shipment, and include the date of shipping in the FB. I believe this gives my buyers more confidence, since I rarely track anything (non-US seller-- you guys have incredibly cheap tracking).
But the OP's problem with "free feedback" would be solved by dropping the automatic FB option.
Personally, I think feedback is a leftover from the early days of the internet and should be dropped entirely in favour of a running total of successful transactions. If there is no Dispute, won or lost, the member's number of transactions rises. If there is a Dispute, there is no addition to either buyer or seller.
I agree with you. I think some public metrics would be a much better indicator than what we have now.

Had someone yesterday cancel a $0.99 item and right after in a message say "dont forget to leave me feedback"....
You are correct about ebay showing similar items right after someone does a buy it now, that definatly causes canceled orders. Another reason they need to do away with buyer cancellations.

I'm investing more away from ebay every day anyways because I know it's going down the hole slowly.
I will look into the options for auto feedback (probably been years since I looked at them) I just can't be bothered do it manually as its hundreds of sales a week.
Thank you. Yes I'm aware that last spring [2018] Ebay started rolling out Managed Payments to a few 1000 sellers. Last year Ebay could have no more that 5% of seller sales represented in MP due to a contract Ebay is still currently under with PayPal. This year they can do up to 10%.
When Ebay started rolling out MP, they also told us that it should be site wide by 2021, which is the year that their contract ends with PayPal.
Currently those that are in MP are by invitation only, but as Ebay moves forward with MP, this can change at any time for any of us. At some point if we are going to sell on this site we will be part of MP.
I understand your position, it is mine too. I have no intention of joining the program until I have no choice. For me however it is only because that darn 25 cent processing fee they are attaching that is per listing. That darn fee affects me and my bottom line. The rest of their fees are less than what we pay with PayPal, but that one darn fee is problematic for me.
As to buyer FB. I think Ebay should just do away with it all together. That is what many other similar sites have done. They don't allow buyer FB at all by sellers. I like that idea.

"Drop" them??? How the heck do you plan to do that? You aren't going to be able to do that here on Ebay.
Simple. They'll switch to square or another payment processor that doesn't do that.
Interesting, when did Ebay start allowing that? Ebay is still under contract with PayPal. So it is PayPal or MP. What you suggest is not something a seller can do.
Even if you don't look at the policy on this subject, you can tell from the listing form that you don't have any other options.

The key info is "credit cards or debit card processed through the seller's internet merchant account" that pretty much coveres every card processor.
PayPal is so intergrated into the buyers ebay experience still I'd say not accepting them any time soon would hurt sales allot.

I didn't now about the $.25 per listing charge they added. That is daylight robery. Someone buys 10 different items off you in one payment and you get hit with $2.50 + 2.8%
Last time I looked it was just the 2.7% and sounded pretty fair. Should have known, it is ebay, the same company that says "we have great news for our sellers" in an update, only to find out they are slashing your top rated discount by 50% lol while raising the bar to even keep top rated status.

Most sellers posting here don't have their own Merchant accounts.

Even if they have their own merchant account, they haven’t been able to use them on eBay since May 1.

Tis true. I knew that. I almost posted it but was having trouble finding the link to that information. Thank you for posting this.

Dunno what the current rules are. Don't care either. I ditched eBay and I'm not coming back.
You used to be able to use your own merchant account and set your seller account up that way. I would assume using a 3rd party merchant processor like square would qualify under such proviso.
Has that option been fully removed?

Ahh haa. So we're all just individual privately run businesses?
I've never had an advertising agency tell me which payment processor I must use before.

Then you've never sold on Amazon. There is one choice and one choice only on Amazon as there will be on Ebay in a couple years. Etsy is the same way. Other sites have limited options. Ebay has always had limited options.
