I’m so sick of buyers asking to cancel orders even after they paid. There is absolutely nothing the seller can do. If the seller doesn't accept the buyer can easily damage the item or leave negative feedback. If a buyer can cancel an order without any repercussions sellers should be allowed to do it as well. I know buyers how angry people get when their orders get cancelled. I fulfill every single order I sell, no matter what. If I’m out of stock I’ll go and buy another one of eBay. I’m losing a decent amount of money doing that but it’s not worth risking a negative. The worst is when you sell a preorder and they ask to cancel right when you’re about to ship. They they paid 3-4 weeks ago! The amount of cancel requests I get is sickening. Wasting my time and it’s such an inconvenience. If the buyer already paid there should not be any cancellations allowed unless there is a problem on the sellers end. I can understand a couple cancellations here and there but come on. eBay needs to either not allow this or put a limit on how many orders buyers can cancel in a selected time frame. I have a list of issues with eBay but I won’t even bother. They have little to no seller protection. I’m happy for the opportunity it gives me to sell stuff but there are so many ways it could be better.

What percentage of sales are being cancelled?
What are the common characteristics of those sales being cancelled? Are they mostly pre-order items?
If so my guess is they find them cheaper elsewhere then cancel with you.
Are some of the cancelling buyers repeat offenders? I immediately block buyers who cancel on me.
Hope you can figure out something in your business that is the bait (for cancellations) so you can eliminate it.

I guess the cancellations would have a lot to do with what you are selling. I personally do not have a problem with cancellations, but it would be annoying if it happened a lot.
But. You can look at it the other way around. Cancelling before you ship could avoid a bigger problem down the road, especially if you offer free returns.

Negatives have no effect on your selling account with eBay.
They may have some effect on future buyers.
Defects for Out Of Stock are very serious.
It is important to monitor your stock so that you are not listing items that are not in stock.
If you are having problems with cancellations and UIDs, shift from Auctions to Fixed Price where these problems are less likely.

Most cancelation requests usually happen within a few hours after they purchased the item. Most likely they just found a better price but everyone makes up some crazy excuses, usually that their children bought it or something happened and they need money. I’m willing to work with the person if they found a better price. I’d rather keep the sale, especially after the item has been paid for. I only use fixed price listing with instant payment required. I probably average around 10 cancel requests a month, which isn’t that bad, it’s just annoying. I have a long list of people I have blocked on eBay for one reason or another. I understand things happen and this is a part of the business but I still feel people should be limited to how many cancellations can they request in a given time. I don’t care that much, just think some things could make eBay better. I feel bad for big eBay stores where they probably get multiple cancellation requests a day.

Yes, that is true. That is probably the only good thing about cancellations. I have had people damage items on purpose just so they could return the item or they swap the new item out with a used/broken item and return that one. Something like that is likely to happen if you don’t cancel the item so it is good in that sense.

When I first started using eBay I did auctions, never again. The percentage of people who don’t pay is quite staggering and such an inconvenience. I only use fixed price listing with immediate payment required for that reason. I don’t even like accepting offers because the chances of them paying aren't very high either. I also have a lot of inventory of the same item so auctions really aren’t an option. Sometimes I’ll do an auction if I’m having a hard time moving sometime. Better to cut the loss than have it sit here for months. I’ll only had to purchase off of eBay a few times to fulfill an order, it is not something I really have a problem with. I was just using it as an example. Cancellations don’t happen that often either just annoying when it does happen. I’m sure big eBay stores have multiple cancellation requests a day. I’m a small store that just started selling seriously this year and I average about one cancellation request every few days. I don’t care that much, I understand most of the time. I just think eBay should put something in place to prevent this from happening as much as it does.

Buyers too lazy to read the whole listing carefully. If you list a local pickup only item, I can guarantee somebody from the opposite coast will buy it now.

I don't receive very many cancellations. Had a buyer make an offer and accepted it. 15 minutes later, wants to cancel.
This buyer hasn't opened a cancel request. Probably has no clue on how to do so.
Tomorrow, he will receive an UPI reminder.

Wow, just looking at your sales for the past month, that looks like over 10%. Wish ebay would allow screening measures for number of returns, cancels, and bid withdrawals like they do for unpaid items.
