Buyer won auction and now says he did not mean to bid on item and wants out. What do I do now?

Buyer won auction and says he did not mean to bid on item. How do I cancel the auction and relist? Thanks

Give him his money back and I think you can sell it to the next highest bidder if you choose too.

The listing entry in your Sold section should have an option to cancel the transaction. Be sure to cite "Buyer requested" so you don't get a defect point.

You can choose to send a Second Chance Offer to an underbidder, or just relist as you would with an unsold item.

Did the buyer pay?

IMHO you swear to yourself under your breath and then either (a) cancel the transaction with the reason "buyer requested", or (b) ask the buyer to request a cancellation throguh the eBay system.

IMHO it is foolish to attempt to force a buyer to pay for an item they clearly do not want, especially on a platform that allows any buyer to return any item for a full refund at the seller's expense.

If more than an hour has passed since the auction ended, then there is no way for the buyer to formally request cancellation, they can only send a message about it. In either case, the actual cancellation is done by the seller.

If the seller is eager to relist or to send a SCO, then cancellation makes more sense than dragging out an unpaid item claim, which also carries the risk of payment followed up by return and/or bad feedback.

Looking at your last three sales I would just do the person a favor.  It's best to take a casual friendly approach to customer relations.

As every other comment says you can cancel and note the reason as the buyers choice.
