Hi everyone!
Please excuse my English, it's not my first language.
This just happened:
I had two listings for some pre-owned jewellery and both pieces were sold using the buy-now option. (No offers were made) They were sold to two different ebay members however it turned out that it must be the same person using multiple accounts (Name and address are the same in both accounts).
Both accounts have no feedback at all and the user names look randomly generated ("navis3366.78lv4cfxr" and "nrovis_d365h2b" sounds a bit dodgy to me). However both items have been paid using paypal, but one amount its being withheld until the buyer confirms its arrival.
My question: Do you think this is a genuine buyer and I can safely send my items as a tracked parcel? (Despite using two different accounts for purchase and the dodgy user names?) Could this be some sort of fraud? Why would someone buy two items from one seller using different ebay accounts? The pieces I sold are worth approx $700, so any advice on how to proceed in this case would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you!

Those are guest IDs. If the paypal transactions say its OK to ship/seller protection eligible, ship the items. Paypal doesn't hold payments until the buyer confirms delivery, are you looking at an email supposedly from paypal? Paypal will sometimes hold funds for 21 days or 3 days after the item was delivered but they don't require confirmation from the buyer.......so if you are looking at emails from paypal, PLEASE log into paypal and make sure you got paid!

As already stated, this buyer checked out as a guest in two separate transactions. You should ship each order separately even if they are going to the same location.

For extra assurance on your side - I would ship with signature confirmation if it makes you feel better (and insurance - extra for the price - for YOUR comfort). Then the buyer has to sign for the pieces and if the shipment is Intercepted during the shipment - the OWNER with the correct ID will have to sign. Is it more expensive - yes, but higher risk items (over $50) is worth insuring for both YOU and the buyer. But those funky IDs are done by people that are guests and not interested in opening a Ebay account with Paypal.

I don't know how eBay works in Austria, but in the US that information would hvae been conveyed in a fake email that pretends to be from PayPal and it would be a sign of a scam. PayPal (here, at least) doesn't work that way. As advised in the other post, don't rely on emails. Check your PayPal account to see whether the payment is there and do not ship unless PayPal says "OK to ship."

If it is the same person - I agree I would Ship SEPARATE as well - then each item has its own confirmation number and no one can tell you that the package arrived with only one item in it.

Yep as has been stated already, those are guest purchases, meaning someone bought them without having an actual ebay account. No red flag there.
However, I am concerned and confused about what you are saying regarding payment. Have you logged into the Paypal website using www.paypal.com (not using any link from any email you may hae received) to verify the payments arrived? Does it say "OK to ship" by those payments? If so, ship the packages.
If not, you are being scammed and you need to open a UPI (unpaid item dispute) after 48 hours of non-payment and close it 96 hours after that.
In the future, you may want to consider enabling IPR (immediate payment required) on your fixed price listings.

Thank you so much! I'm overwhelmd by all your feedback 🙂 I never heard of guest accounts before, but now everything makes sense. Just logged into paypal and checked my balance - the money is in my account. Will post both items seperately with two tracking numbers.
Thanks again, thread can be closed 🙂

Regarding the payment: I think I must have read that wrong... Just checked with paypal and the money is only witheld a couple of days. I should receive the full amount three days after shipping 🙂 Maybe I can edit this in my original post, don't want to confuse people.. thank you!

OK, great, that's reassuring. That IS how PayPal handles the funds hold. Funds will be released about 3 days after the carrier scan confirms delivery.
Your earlier description sounded like a common scam in which the fake email says that funds won't show up in the PayPal account until the seller provides proof that the item has been shipped.

I guess that happened because I read so much online before opening this thread and then mixed up things ^^
