Buyer who wanted direct contact

I have a potential buyer who wanted direct contact. I reached out as im new. They wanted to do a cashiers check through mobile deposit. I refused and said go through ebay as it's what's best for me so I'm not scammed. Since I'm new just checking to see if this has happened to anyone else.

you will need to watch out for this

the same goes for texting and gift cards

My advice to you is this...

Ebay has a system, a way of doing things.

It might take a few sales to get used to that system, but basically it's always the same.

As in "buyer pays, you ship, and then in some order you get paid, after they take their fees."

So then...

Whatever you do, stick to that system.

There exists absolutely no good reason why any buyer or seller should have to step outside that.

Let me repeat that:

There exists absolutely no good reason why any buyer or seller should have to step outside that.

And so if a buyer is asking you to step aside the usual way of doing things, it's not for a good reason.

Yes you did the correct thing.  Next thing you need to do:

  • Block user/scammer
  • Do not respond further to scammer.

That's a scam. Read up on the policies. New sellers are scam magnets. You should add them to your blocked bidder list and report them. Attempting contact outside of ebay is a policy violation. Never do anything outside of ebay or give out personal info. Never change the shipping address ebay provides with payment. Look around this board; you can read about even seasoned sellers being ripped off in many different ways.

You did the right thing. Scammers do target new sellers.

@beautifully89  Hi! Just don't do it. Does not worth the risk. You can ask them politely to complete the purchase through the eBay platform/checkout. Also, ship only to the ebay shipping address that they provide during checkout.

If this is for the large cage that is pickup only, they can bring cash if they want to take it home.
