Buyer wants to return but I don't accept returns

I don't accept returns but a buyer wants to return an item (because it doesn't fit) but is willing to pay for shipping. The pair of pants are in excellent condition so I wouldn't mind having them back as long as its condition is the same. I advised them to go to "Purchase History" and select the "Return this item" option but they said that they're not able to (probably because I don't accept returns?).

 

What should I do next? Issue a refund after receiving the item as long as it's in the same condition I sold it in?

Whether you accept returns or not the link should work, because the MBG overrides any no returns policies.  IOW no returns is not a given because a buyer must have recourse for inaccurate descriptions.

OP - the buyer should be able to select they want to return an item even tho you have a no return policy. Ebay would send you a message asking you if you'd like to accept the return. If for some reason the buyer can understand how to do a return - I'm had buyer's return the item with tracking and then I just refund them when I receive it. It's up to you - but if the original shipping was paid by the buyer - you can elect to keep that so you aren't out the ship cost. If you have free shipping - their entire payment needs to be returned in full upon receipt of the item.

Since your buyer is willing to pay the return shipping, why not just have them do an independent shipping label on their own if they can't access the return link online.

True, and it's probably what I'll end up doing. I just feel more comfortable if they could do it through eBay.

Understood, and the Blues have stated that Ebay prefers all such actions to go through a case.

 

You might suggest to the buyer since that link isn't working (although I don't see why it wouldn't be working, IMO), they can call Ebay CS and they will open the case for them, if you want.  That may be risky, though, because the buyer would have to be sure to tell them the correct reason, buyer's remorse and they are paying the return shipping, and the rep may misunderstand and choose the wrong reason, so this is up to you.  If rep chooses SNAD when it is not, or the buyer says that when it is not, then you are responsible for return shipping.

 

Paypal requires the buyer to pay return shipping~don't know if that is an option you would use, either, but I imagine they would open a case for a buyer as well.

 

I am not saying buyer should open a case with both ebay and paypal.

 

But I know CS will open cases for buyers if they call.

I just mentioned this because you are uncomfortable and would prefer that the buyer do this through a case.

In case there is a glitch, they could try the link to open a case again later.

I would not have the buyer call CS. I would not trust CS to NOT open a "not as described" case. I'm not sure they know how to open a remorse return. CS may see that you do not take returns, and then tell the buyer the only way to return this item is to claim snad.

Spot on ersatz - OP - you never know how knowledgeable a CS agent is - they have given a lot of false information to both buyers and sellers in the past and you don't need an SNAD case open because you will be responsible for return shipping then and it will count against your seller metrics.
