Buyer wants to purchase all of my inventory...

I was just contacted this morning by a buyer who wants to purchase all of my inventory across two multi-listings. Some of my inventory is duplicates (quantity of 2 or more), so I told the buyer that I would send her a price and remove duplicates. She responded that no, she wants all of it - even duplicates. In my selling niche, this doesn't make sense - people don't need two of the same item. This makes me a little suspicious.

I checked the buyer's feedback (200+) and they have 75+ positive ratings over the last 6 months. No negatives, no neutrals.

I want to assume positive intent on the part of the buyer, but I was recently subject to a "buyer's remorse" situation in October where the buyer purchased $600 worth of merchandise (after discounts) and then tried to return half of it. I said no problem - go ahead, I'll approve - and then she responded via email that she would agree to not return the items if I gave her an additional $100 off the total sale as a refund. It felt like extortion, was a terrible place to be, and I'm afraid of landing there again.

Any advice from seasoned sellers? I'm fairly new, selling since mid-July. Thank you for any insight.

Misty

And yet here you are in your selling niche with two of the same item 🙂

Have you considered this person is a reseller who thinks your prices have left him some room to resell them at a profit?

Suspicious that the buyer is a reseller or wants to be?   That wouldn't bother me at all.    It's up to you.

They are already talking about returns and haven't even purchased yet?

I'm out.

It's your competition and if things don't sell, they'll be coming back for a refund, and possibly through paypal, up to 6 mos. later.

Re: Buyer wants to purchase all of my inventory...

Hi there, ha - yes, I do sell more than one of the same item as these are retired/discontinued colors. That said, a person who uses these only needs one of any given color because they can "refill" the item as needed once they have the  base product. That said, I won't rule it out. Just raises my caution flags a bit.

On price - I set my BIN in line with my competitors so as to hold us stable in the market. We sell some of the same products across one another, but many times, another competitor might have a color I don't have and vice versa. There is a place here for all of us. If she is looking to buy and resell, then she would need to do so on a different platform unless I'm missing something obvious 🙂

Thanks for your thoughts! I may just have some post-incident anxiety.

Of course they have no negatives or neutrals. It's not possible for a seller to give a negative or neutral rating to a buyer.  All buyers have lovely 100% feedback ratings.

At a glance, I don't see any auction listings by you; I saw only Fixed Price listings. Why doesn't she just hit the BuyItNow on the two multi-listings that she's interested in? What is it that she's trying to arrange with you, exactly? A discounted price on the two combined?

Re: Buyer wants to purchase all of my inventory...

Sounds like someone is either starting a store or gives stampping classes? I would ask for an agreement in advanced that the buyer waives his right to return the items. Maybe redo your items to combine shipping so you can put them all together for shipping? Otherwise, WUHUUU!!!

I am who I am- those who matter don't mind. Those who mind, don't matter.

Re: Buyer wants to purchase all of my inventory...

I once sold my entire inventory to a reseller - she had a boutique. My store was pretty small then (less than 100 items) - the stuff I had couldn't be found in her area and she had two very profitable departments she wanted to fill - what I sold you often could get more for in brick and mortar than here.

Your items seem perfect for someone who wants to do the same, given that they're all in one niche.

Wow...your prices are awesome. I was sooo tempted tho I don't even use the stamps I have anymore...you have a great selection. I'm not sure what advice I could give but have you checked her feedback left for others?

You can learn a lot about what your experience with a buyer might be by checking that.  I do it with every offer from a new buyer.

I usually ignore such buyers, the risk of this being too good to be true is simply too high for me.
