Buyer using Autopay in one week

A buyer won  a small item.  Then I noticed a message on my orders page that they were still shopping and would use Autopay in exactly one week.  I do not have any more current listings for them to continue "shopping".  I have never seen that before and wonder what its all about?

The way I see it you have 2 choices, you can either have auto-pay on and the buyer gets one week, or you can turn off auto-pay and the buyer gets 96 hours to pay.

Keep in mind, during that week the buyer can remove the card or self block it during the week period so basically you're not guaranteed payment either way.

The choice is yours.

Edit: I'm not sure but can't the buyer also cancel the transaction at any time as long as it hasn't been shipped yet and the seller can't decline it?

Actually, it sucks! Why do I have to wait a week when eBay allows you to cancel a transaction for non-payment after four days. It's ridiculous! I get the 1-Hour Autopay ... that makes sense. It's accurate, convenient and genuinely helps the Buyer (and the Seller) but to wait a week is stupid ... full stop.

Buyers can turn off auto payments:

 On PayPal buyers can turn off auto pay to stop auto pays.  So, if the buyer pays using PayPal, then you wait it out.

A buyer can also edit the payment settings on eBay to block auto payments.

Because eBay hates sellers. That’s why they do it.

@harpananda

That is the result of an eBay "test" that presents that to a BUYER.  It is not presented to all buyers.  You have to have the "BUYER RULES" retained in the default to yes, and allow combined shipping.  If you turn them off, as @campanaelia  stated a buyer will not be presented with this option.  When this first started, sellers were allowed to cancel these "wins" after 96 hours anyway, making for more bad buyer experiences.  I do not know if eBay ever corrected that.

Buyer Rules:

*Require buyers to provide a payment method before they place a bid.

*Require buyers to provide a payment method before they make an offer.

Click submit or save.

This was offered to some buyers because the buyers did not appreciate having to pay separately at full shipping price for multiple auction wins. They still have to for offers they make that are accepted, and likely won't make offers at all as a result.   I buy jewelry.  Ten auction wins $6 shipping for each would result in a shipping charge of $60 for a parcel that would be under 8 ounces.  I am not stupid, so I go shopping with sellers who don't require it.   The seller that keeps them got paid faster (unless their buyer is now put in the test), but once buyers caught on to this program many just refused to participate, thus the experiment.

@ypbigdog

Why? Because you retain the Buyer Rules that dictate you are in the "auto-pay" mode that is allowing some buyers to get the 7 days. .  Buyers  don't like it, and many quit bidding, so this is intended to "lure them back".   See more details in message #6.
