Buyer upset at "incorrect" tracking info

Buyer made a big stink at me because the tracking shows "DELIVERED IN/AT MAILBOX" on 10/1, as well as "DELIVERED IN/AT MAILBOX" on 10/2. They bought this over the weekend so late arrival shouldn't be an issue. I apologized and mentioned to them that USPS is going thru crazy issues and tracking may not totally be on the up and up. But glad they received their item safely.

They replied that they want me to "make it right" because they were mislead that the tracking showed 10/1 delivered when they said it was delivered on 10/2. Ignore???

Dear Buyer, as per Ebay regulations, sellers are not responsible for USPS delays and errors due to Covid.

And then RUN to the BBL.  This sort of buyer no one needs.  The WWII-era term for this sort of person was "chiseler".  Don't be needin' none of that.

You have done what you could to explain to the buyer. Could have told them that the carrier made an error, and for some reason the item did not get delivered on the 1st. Which you sort of did, but some need things in exact wording that will sink in , and be understood. (or not)

I had a buyer open a not as described because the carrier mis-scanned a delivery (or mis-delivered). Reason missing parts, or pieces. I accepted. It sort of resolved itself as USPS redelivered (delivered) the item 2-3 days later.

This past week 1 carrier scanned all my out going as "delivered".  One buyer messaged right away wanting to know why it showed delivered when he had just made the purchase that morning.  He failed to look at the time on all the event scans, as there was another scan showing accepted (picked up) 32 minutes after the "delivered" scan.  ( I chased down the carrier getting re-scans 3 miles down the road)  That is partially an eBay issue, as they do not show the events in a time sequence. They just stick with that "delivered" as the last event.

This week other carrier scanned 3 items more than once resulting in tracking showing "duplicate". (wait, maybe USPS will try to charge me double on those)

"I regret that you are not happy with your purchase. Please return it for a full refund."

 Rinse, repeat.

He won't.

And I join the chorus of BBL BBL BBL...

I don't understand why the buyer would expect you to have any control over what USPS updates to their website.  If you choose to respond tell them that they need to contact their local USPS office to have this corrected since they are responsible for posting all updates.

Don't ignore, message them with something like this...

Dear buyer,

Per your request I have notified the USPS  of your displeasure in their online tracking service. They said they were very sorry and that currently the only way to prevent this, is to stop making any updated information available for the addressee/recipient in the future. Would like for me to arrange that for you?

This will stop all future updates to tracking information from anyone/anywhere.

Let me know as soon as possible, so those pesky updates will stop.

Thank you for being a valued customer,  bigdeals.etc

And they e-mail the buyer as soon as that delivered scan comes in.

I had the opposite situation recently. The buyer's carrier scanned the package as picked up. I had to file a case with USPS to get their local PO to correct the scan so I wouldn't have to pay out an INR to an opportunist.

I messages that buyer explaining what had happened.

I then messaged the other buyers.

All delivered. (a second time) No screaming from anyone (so far) (knock on wood}

Here's how to make it right.

Get the job of Postmaster General.   Make changes so there is no more incorrect tracking info.

Notify the buyer that problem has been solved and you have "made it right"
