Buyer unaware that he had to pay for shippping

Buyer bought a item but was unaware that  shipping wasn’t free. Asked if I can accept payment and  I would do shipping as C.O.D. I said that wasn’t possible and he could cancel the sale. He said no and that he could pay it. It’s been two days and still no payment. Buyer is new with zero feedback.

Go the UID route, might even be automatic, I think you just have to wait then it will close out due to non-payment and you can relist...

Why don't you either cancel, or open an UPI case?

I had a similar situation with a new buyer account and 0 feedback. Buyer never did pay and I simply rode out the process and after 5 days eBay closed out a UPI case and I relisted the item. Added the person to my BBL.

Sellers no longer open UPI cases. After 4 days, eBay cancels automatically and gives the buyer a nonpayment strike.

Thanks for the reminder.  I tend to forget that periodically since it's new, to me, anyway.

Plus there's the fact that I am not alone since we see many similar posts here from sellers complaining about non-paying bidders.

@grissoly  Ebay started automatically closing Unpaid Items on their timeframe. I have had several Unpaid items and I was not able to open a request to close the case. Ebay just issued a refund and sent a notification that they had done so. I think I ended up waiting 5 days for them to close.

The buyer is lying to you. When you use BIN the total is shown right in front of your eyes unless you are blind of course.

Exactly! When did an eBay invoice not EVER show the total that the buyer owed, including item price, shipping and state sales tax (recently for many buyers)?

IMO, neither auctions nor offers are all that clear about the buyer's total cost. Auctions show the shipping cost, and, of course, the buyer knows how much s/he bid, but the tax isn't shown until after a bid has been won. That's no excuse, of course, for the buyer not to be aware of at least an estimated total, but . . .

Offers aren't really all that clear, either. Of course, when a buyer makes or accepts an offer, they get a little message about shipping not being part of the offer, but I think buyers overlook that. Again, no excuse, of course, but it is what it is.

I think auctions and the offer process are much less clear about the final total a buyer will be committed to pay. Using the BIN option or the cart option for checkout are much more transparent, IMO.

Generally listings will show your shipping amount below the bidding box before you bid, offer, or use Buy It Now.    So the buyer is probably full of it.  They probably will not pay and you just cancel the listing using the "buyer did not pay" option which becomes available after 5 days.

I do find buyers in Canada and other nations do not get shown a shipping amount, apparently, as when I do get asked how much it's almost always someone from outside the US.

If shipping cost was shown on listing in addition to item price then to best of my knowledge a buyer can not buy an item without having paid item price+ shipping.

If item is sitting in your unpaid/ awaiting payment section then to my understanding buyer has not bought the item as no payment has been made and in that case there is nothing for you to do as eBay will close this in a  few days and you will receive a message from eBay confirming this and you can relist.

Best advice that I can give you is to never communicate with buyers or sellers outside of eBay messages and never take the sale outside eBay's platform. You refusing C.O.D is perfect.

You have to do that manually.

I do not do mobile, but many posts on the boards about not showing shipping has to be paid when buyer is using a mobile device.  Not saying that is the case here, just read posts about it.

It's only automatic if your settings are set to have it done automatically.
