An item I recently sold is listed as delivered, but the buyer says they did not receive it. They acknowledge, in their message, that they know such a thing is beyond my control.
I responded almost immediately with the tracking information. The buyer has not responded since then and funds are still on hold. It has been a few days. Is there more I have to do? I'm not sure if something has gone wrong with this process.

Sounds to me like they have might have geocoding issues. Something is listed wrong in a computer database. A friend of mine had a similar issue.

I did message the buyer, just saying that I hadn't heard anything for a bit. They said they were filing a police report since they suspect it was stolen after delivery, which does seem a likely explanation.

Well…..
I had recent experience that kind of changed my attitude on delivery scans.
Bought item, didn’t arrive, showed delivered.
I have roommates and also have sold for 20 years… reached out to seller asking what the package looked like so I could ask around and he pretty much behaved like a defensive, suspicious, accusatory snot.
Done deal in his mind.
Two days later a slip is on my door telling me to go get package at the post office. I go and they have nothing.
I reach out to seller who says, it shows delivered so IT IS delivered and too bad so sad.
Really, no use fighting but it’s obvious to me the post office lost it. I know there’s nothing I can do but I’m bummed and seller was really nasty. I felt worse about THAT than the missing package - it was only a $15 or so sale. Big whoop. He could have at least acted kind and concerned.
Then 2 or 3 days later package shows up.
🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️
Clearly, delivery scans and postal workers are not 100% accurate.
And I’ll buy my consumable item from a different seller next time.
Because he was MEAN and DEFENSIVE and ACCUSATORY over a measly $15 item I wasn’t even asking for a refund on.

File a chargeback with your CC Company.

Why?
The package was delayed but was eventually delivered.
The delay was out of the seller's hands.
The OP got her item and can leave appropriate feedback for the snotty seller. The most effective feedback is calm and factual.

"When the PO scans an item as delivered there is a GPS stamp on their record. This is not accessible to you, but if you open a "where is my package" request on the USPS website they will find it for you."
I've had to do this a number of times. Once though they never did find the package, not sure why not. Maybe before the GPS feature...

"I guess I would not order anything by mail if you know the Post Office is that unreliable. Not the sellers fault."
We have been home (except for getting vaccinated) for 580 days. We get food deliveries, and would never ever hold a Seller (here or elsewhere) responsible for what is obviously a shippers fault, whether USPS, FedEx, UPS or other. 99.99 % of our packages get here just fine, but occasionally there are mishaps, as in any situation. Shipping is a nightmare right now, all over the world, not just in my lil patch.

The problem is rural contract delivery (USPS and FedEx). Our main delivery person knows us and is very reliable but small packages can get shoved under others and forgotten till the next day. The relief deliverers are the problem. They get the streets mixed up, as well as the numbers. Or they will miss the house and then say 'access denied' **bleep**. Our mailbox and doorway are very accessible. I don't even bother calling the PO anymore...I know the package will show up the next day.
As for FedEx, they are also using contract drivers and we had an order dropped off a couple of days ago at 11:00 at night. Luckily (it's finally raining) they wrapped it in a plastic bag. That was cool.

Lol, I know that was a long read but package eventually showed up.

It's saying "Buyer reported their item hasn't arrived" after our latest exchange. But, since I already submitted tracking details, the subsequent exchange doesn't negate that, right? Just a little weird since the option for providing tracking info is still there.

SO because the seller said that the tracking showed delivered and the buyer did get the item you are suggesting that the buyer file a chargeback because of what?

I live in the Atlanta area and the delivery people here are the worst I ever experienced. Both FedEx and USPS delivery people have scanned items as delivered without even driving by my house (I have 24/7 video recording). At least with FedEx the item arrives the next day. USPS is the worst in my experience. Often packages are just dumped at the local post office without ever attempting delivery. When I check tracking, it states "Held at Post Office, At Customer Request. " Someone is always home at our house so I never request a package to be held at the post office. Other times USPS delivery person has just marked the item as delivered and it was never brought by the house at all. I verified on my video playback which demonstrates no delivery people ever came by my house. In my opinion, a USPS tracking confirmation is no longer a reliable indication that a customer has actually received a package.
