Buyer said CPU didn't work, accepted return, sent back a roll of tape

This is the first time I had a problem like this, but I knew something was up when I noticed that the seller had 0 feedback, I should have canceled the transaction but I noticed just I shipped it, I took the chance.

I sold an Intel i7-9700, few days later, buyer says it didn't work, so I accepted a return, paid for return label, and sent it to them. Today I got the return, they put a roll of haloween tape in it.

I want to know how ebay helps sellers with something like this I took pictures and a video of opening the package, and sent it, but want to know what to expect. I have 100% positive feedback in both buying and selling.

Crazy how I limited to who I sell to, and this still happened.

Re: Buyer said CPU didn't work, accepted return, sent back a roll of tape

File a mail fraud report with usps.gov

File an internet fraud report with ic3.gov

File a fraud report with your local police

File a fraud report with the buyer's local police.

Report the buyer to ebay.

The first four are usually doable on-line and should give your report numbers.   Save those report numbers.

Contact ebay CS with all those report numbers and ask that the case be decided in your favor.

Not much need to put that buyer on your BBL as he will likely never use that id again.

How do you know it is the same buyer?   No names are mentioned in the above thread.

They don't.  There is an absolute epidemic of fraud when relative new sellers like yourself sell relatively expensive electronic items.  Ebay could easily post a warning to new sellers when listing expensive items where the potential for fraud is high, but again, they don't.  The other items you have listed will also attract scammers who will see that you don't sell often.  You are better off selling your listed items locally at 20% below your Ebay price as you will net about the same amount.

Unfortunately, a moderator removed the name from my message saying "I'm shaming." Ridiculous. I can potentially lose out $200 AND my item and ebay is over here moderating my messages for exposing someone who scams on their platform.

I've already filed the IC3, now doing postal service. I got time. I called the number from the scammer, of course it doesn't work, I recorded while I called too, the number is fake.

Unfortunately, I dont know if you sold the item with no returns stated in the title or description, which is the custom of any used electronic item, and also state unopened, sealed, used, un tested, no guarantees. Then, you would have foot to stand on, but I dont think that is the case. If you did all that, then they would most likely....well you can try to take a picture of what they sent you and submit to eBay, if you want to try.

I filed the mail fraud and the IC3 so far. I think this is the last time I will sell on eBay. This is the first time this has happened, but based on the responses here, I feel like I am getting duped out of my money and my security. I will report back in a couple of days when I get a response. Absolutely ridiculous that you can't even call anyone for something like this.

I did put "no returns," but I heard if you do that, it doesn't matter because eBay will still refund the buyer. It seems there's no help for sellers, yet they charge you out the ying yang for your sales.

Update: eBay ruled in my favor! However, from the future, even if I receive penalties, I will cancel any order from anyone with fake looking or no feedback. I wish there was a way to not just receive the payment, like to approve of it first.

You can receive penalties for using a false reason to cancel. You can't just cancel because someone has zero feedback. If someone pays you ship. I don't like what I am going to say, but if you can't afford to lose something, maybe should not sell it on line.
