Buyer returned wrong item.

A buyer purchased 2 cpu's off of my listing.  He then started a INAD return stating they did not work on his motherboard.  I accepted the return and he sent me a box with an envelope inside addressed to someone else, which contained a small audio cable.  I reported the buyer to ebay just now.   Is there anything else I should do?

You can try and speak with an ebay rep. Click the help and contact link.  It's sad but many sellers lose in cases like that.  Return fraud is a growing problem in all forms of sales. All you can do is add some to all your prices to cover such loses.

With the Covid-19 ebay support is very hard to get through to.

file theft with law enforcement.

The Postal inspector, yours and their state police etc..

eBay is not law enforcement and has no idea if you or they are telling the truth. They will find for the bidder.

Make sure to get copy's of your report to file with eBay if you have to appeal the case..

Make sure to report the bidder with eBay for return abuse as well. It is good for them to have such on file for the bidder if some one actually get around to investigating the theft and fraud through internet and mail.

Hey guys so when the item came through on the site (a few hours after it came physically) as returned, I reported the problem and asked ebay to take over.  I uploaded pictures and mentioned I had recorded myself opening the package.

Thats it. The case was closed in my favor!

Yeah I'm guessing the buyer has been abusing the policy.  I was expecting the worst from everything I read about these situations.

Nice. One of the few cases where I have heard eBay decided in favor of the seller. Very unusual but for sure don't expect that to be the outcome in most cases.

I have a buyer who returned the wrong item also. He bought a gold jewelry, as soon as he received the item he filed a return request and sent me a pic of fake pearls stating I was sending him the wrong item. I took  some pics and videos of the item he sent me and reported him to ebay. He was really fast because he called ebay that day over the weekend were they issued refund so I reappealed that night same day sending them all the screenshots of the item I was sending to buyer and the returned item(I always take videos of all my items from start of packing to finish including the codes so with the returned items, I have some buyers who contacted me that they received an empty package, fake item, or wrong items and telling them that I can show a video/proof that usually solved the problems ) even though I had the security tag attached to the item that didn't stop him.  Ebay granted my appeal within less than 2 hours , I've won the case, got my money back. I'm relieved that ebay will protect their sellers also.

Even more unusual since eBay generally doesn't care about video's or pictures as evidence of what you shipped or what you received but nice that you came out on this one. Hopefully the buyer doesn't now file a chargeback. The CC companies see to care less about pictures and logistical details than eBay does and the CC company is 100% in charge of making the decision.

Yea my guess is this is what happened. eBay doesn’t care about recorded videos and photos because they can be faked. What they do care about is if a buyer has repeatedly been reported by sellers for the same offense. Yes, it probably didn’t help the sellers before you who reported the buyer. But I’m sure you can agree that you owe a debt of gratitude to those unknown sellers who put this buyer on eBay’s radar and sided with you.

Moral of the story, report your buyers people! It isn’t always about you, just pay it forward to help other sellers. If everyone followed this, it’ll eventually come back to you.
