Buyer returned an item to the wrong address but ebay forced the refund.

Buyer started a return and sent the item back to my address from 3 years ago despite it not being my return address. It was delivered and ebay took the money for refund but i dont have the item and have no way of getting it as i dont know who lives there now and I am halfway across the country now. I tried chatting and they told me to call a number that goes to a recording and then hangs up. I need that money back but i dont know who to call or contact.

The question becomes how did the buyer get your old address from 3 years ago?

its my registration address but i dont have an address for returns and the return address on the item shipped to the. buyer was the one im living in now.

Your bad.  The buyer would be expected to use the address listed on Ebay and not an address on the package of the item received.

i never knew i needed to have a return address and as far as i knew my address had been changed. Regardless of the bad i dont have my item or my money something should be fixed

Did you provide a Return label through eBay? If so... it looks like they have that address as a good address for you.

i have been shipping and printing labels from a different address than that one for 3 years and buying things as well. All of my known default addresses in ebay and paypal are the one im in not the old one.

Yea you gotta be real careful, I just almost had the exact same thing happen to me. When I moved, I changed the Billing and Shipping address to the new one. But I didn't see in the settings you need to change the Return address. Since I don't do a lot of returns this is no big deal. But I had a return the other week, and luckily when I was reading the update notifications it showed my old address as the return address. I can see if you aren't paying attention how you could miss it. But it was there, and gave me a bit of a panic attack. Luckily I was able to fix the return address before creating the return label, so all was good. You can try going on facebook and explaining to an ebay rep the situation. But sadly, I think you might be out of luck.

But if your old address is still here, it's why eBay printed it for your buyer.

Ya know, you bought the same amp from an ebay seller a while back and left them a negative;

"Seller sold me a defective amplifier and won't accept the return"

Looks like you resold the same defective amp that you couldn't return. Same amp, you called it a "500" but pictures show it a "300"...same amp.

and now your buyer left you a negative

"This seller sold me a broken amp"

Maybe it's time to stop that defective amp from circulating?

As far as your address, you said it is your registration address, obviously still in the ebay system.

I gotta tell you,the people on this board would not believe it if you told them there were that many places to change an address. Many thanks for posting that ,I had no idea that it was such a comprehesnsive list.

I have been selling here since 99 with the same address and I have heard many stories about old addresses being used all of a sudden,I guess its the return  that triggers them

It's actually  very simple fix. When you move you change your addresses. Ebay has no idea if a person moves. OP, contact the person you say you know who lives at your old address and send them $$ to mail you your broken item back. The other option since it is broken is just forget about it.

Life doesn't work that way. Your 'bad' means there very well could be consequences. This is that consequence.

I thought on the return case there was a place to confirm the return ship to address.
