What should I do here? Someone won an auction of mine, then sent a cancellation request due to finding it cheaper. To me, they shouldn't have typed in and entered the bid they did without being prepared to pay that price. I'm leaning towards declining, but wanted opinions. Thanks

Cancel the order using buyer requested as the reason. If you decline and ship the buyer will either refuse the shipment or open a NAD case when they receive it. You will get the package back and be out the postage cost.
This happens not only with auctions but BIN as well and eBay will often let the buyer know the item can be obtained cheaper elsewhere when they make the purchase. Some buyers will bid on multiple listings for the same item and pay for the cheapest one then cancel the rest. It is not the norm but it does happen.

Hi, what was mentioned above is correct, save yourself the potential headache, you have proof of communication. What I will add is to check to see if you can offer this to a second place finisher of your auction, and hopefully you can sell the item, this, of course, if you are happy with their bid offering. Good luck.

Man has a lot changed. I remember if you did this 20 years ago, you'd be banned immediately. I guess I'll have to cancel, but it's just so ridiculous if you put in a bid amount you can just cancel if you find it cheaper. To me, don't bid if you're unwilling to pay.
Thanks

To the best of my recollection, I have experienced such a problem on three occasions. I do not ship, wait as long as possible to refund and add them to my BBL.

I would be satisfied with the second highest, but I don't see an option to do that. Do I have to accept the cancellation first?

They never sent me any money is the thing. They sent the request less than 5 minutes after the auction ended.

Yes.

I TOTALLY agree

Since the "buyer" didn't pay, I'd wait the 4 or 5 days until I could file against them that they didn't pay.
Then the buyer gets the dreaded & frightening Unpaid Item Strike. The Unpaid Item Strike seems to strike fear into the hearts of eBayers worldwide.

eBay is a venue where a buyer can easily force a return, easily cost a seller a lot of money, and even damage a seller's ability to continue using the site.
I think it would be foolish to attempt to force a buyer to pay for something he clearly does not want to buy. I would cancel as "buyer requested" and appreciate that I did not have to refund or pay shipping costs for a bogus return.

I already cancelled and re listed it. I could out who it is, but I'm sure that'll violate some rule. It just seems like this can be abused by people who get buyers remorse. Back in the day, when you placed a bid it told you your bid was binding.

A lot has changed but people for sure have changed. I am from the old school and think along your lines. I don't bid on anything that I do not intend to pay for. If you search long enough and hard enough you can usually find things cheaper but I was willing to pay the price when I bid and I feel bound to do so.
You are a pretty new seller hang around awhile you will probably see some strange things as a seller. Non-paying buyers seem to be a big issue lately, there are always the scammers to deal with. BTW I see you have several listings with a starting bid price of $.99 hopefully that is not based on eBay's recommendation. 😁

But can you not see how that's absurd? If you don't want it, don't bid on it. I mean there has to be some personal responsibility here when you enter the bid.

You have options. Clicking "send invoice" will bring up a screen where you can see the buyer's mailing address. There are services that send manure. You can also just ignore them and ebay will issue them an unpaid item strike once time for paying has expired.
