Buyer requested measurement after purchase

A buyer purchased something from me, and after the purchase sent me 2 messages stating that she needed the item to have a certain measurement and requested that I measure it for her.  I did the measurement, and reported to her that the item was too short.  I told her that if she no longer wanted the item, she needed to cancel the transaction and would receive a full refund.  She has not replied.

Here's my question:  Do I go ahead and mail the item anyway?  Or should I cancel the transaction myself?  Item is not extremely expensive, nor is shipping.  But I hate to risk the hassle of a return vs. would hate to receive negative feedback for cancelling the transaction without her permission.

Always a difficult decision when buyers do not give a definitive answer.

She may not know how to cancel or system would not allow her to do this. You as seller can do this through her order.

Personally I would send her a message stating something like that as per her message your understanding is that item she has purchased does not meet her requirements and you understand this to mean she would like to cancel the order and if this is not the case then please advise otherwise to avoid any further delays you will be proceeding to cancel the order tomorrow.

 Hopefully this avoids any unpleasantness and only cost you have occurred is $0.30 fixed fee for processing the payment which you will not get back.

It does help.  I did send her a message this morning, explaining that I either needed to cancel or mail out to avoid penalties from Ebay...no response yet.  From her feedback from other buys, she appears to be a collector of this type of item, so I am thinking she may want it anyway.  I was planning to wait until my window to mail is almost closed (5:00 today), then send a message that I am mailing (and then hope she just keeps it!)  Thanks for your response!

Well, she did finally respond and requested to cancel.  So relieved that this decision is made!
