Buyer questioning condition of a parts listing HELP!

Buyer says "

The LCD display IS IN BAB CONDITION, WORK BOT IS NOT CLEAR, TWO WIDE LINE TOP TO BOTTOM. YOU SAY FOR PARTS OK. BUT NOTHING ABOUT THE DISPLAY WAS DAMAGE DO YOU HAVE ANOTHER ."

item is 292127979047

Do I ignore or reply? I don't want negative or neutral feedback for a item I clearly stated was for parts/not working...

Buyer has 528 100% feedback, seems to leave mostly positive. Only a neutral and negative he's left in the past 200 for cancelations.

Can I say Its for parts/not working. Why did you assume any part of it was OK?

I don't see it in your sold listings.

I can't find it with the item number you posted.

--------

Did you select Parts / Not Working as the Item Condition?

or did you choose "Used" and just say that in the body of the listing?

If it's the listing I'm looking at, you clearly stated that there were issues with the LCD screen.  I would point out that part in the description, since you both stated that the LCD screen had problems AND included photos that showed exactly what you were talking about.  This one is 100% on the buyer if they couldn't read OR look at the included photos.

Oh, never mind, I guess I was wrong... I didn't see that OP had listed the item number in the original post.  They DID sell another item in which they clearly detailed the issues with the LCD screen so I thought it was that one.  But this one... well, they said it wouldn't turn on and listed it for parts/not working, so I still don't think the buyer has much to complain about.  They bought something that was clearly listed as "For Parts/Not Working" and that had a description that said the item in question wouldn't even turn on.

That item number didn't work for me.

Did it, for you?

Thanks again,

It did, yes.  You need to type in http://www.ebay.com/itm/ and then type the item number after that.

It did, but if you're doing a search based on the listing number alone, you have to remember to check the Completed (or Sold) Items checkbox, or else it will search the live listings only, and then tell you that it's Not Found.

As for the listing, I agree that it's shown as Parts Only, and the Condition notes state, "Won't boot just beeps once when you turn it on." However, the actual description talks about it showing a never-ending Software Loading message on the display, with no problems about the display operation itself (which the buyer seems to be complaining about), so I think the buyer assumed that the LCD would be fine, and the real problem(s) would be elsewhere.

I know Parts Only listings should limit what the buyer gets to complain about, but in this case, I hate to say it but I think the OP may have unintentionally posted a misleading description about where the problems were, or were not. (The price tag of $99 also hints that it might have more value than just a paperweight.) I would take it back for a refund, then maybe relist with a reworded description, as well as photos showing its failure mode.

I don't feel it's misleading. It wouldn't boot up for me. Just a black screen. If the buyer knows how to get it to boot up, I don't know how he did it.

Update: I replied

"

Your previous message

How did you get it to turn on? I couldn't get it to boot up so I have no idea what condition the screen is couldn't see any lines you describe cause it wouldn't boot up"

He replied:

"Yes, I turn on. The EPROM fail and was replaced, the shop we have is the best Radar and GPS repair in the nation., we do this for the Navy for a long time. if you want a photo I can send you one. the price was too high. retail going to be too high with bad LCD, maybe imposable to sale. Did you can lower the price?"

I really don't want to work with him. He made assumptions about my listing, took the item apart and made internal modifications, and wants a discount now...?

Sounds like he's buying things to fix and flip. When you are in that game you build the cost of rolling with the punches into what you are willing to pay.  And only ask questions if you think it's prudent as a question can tip a seller off to a better way to list/describe.

Some people try to make a little extra on the back end by saying my broken item ain't broken the way I thought it was so I deserve a discount. Since he's a  flipper and likely playing that game I'd stand on return for refund and might even write something cute about really wanting it back.

But word to the wise parts/repair needs to be described better than new/perfect. Perfect only needs one word. Not perfect needs a description. There are plenty of cases where a seller thinks for parts disclaims everything. And the buyer has legitimate greviance. But in this case OP describes the condition admirably to the best of his knowlege.
