Buyer pays with echeck on $1,150 auction

Had a Kobe Bryant RC Auction Lot .. total value of the lot was probably around $2500-$3000 but it sold for $1150 crazy weird. The buyer pays via ECHECK.  This is a 7 day auction, I never  got an Echeck. PayPal notifies me its 7 -10 days to clear. I advised the buyer I will be canceling this transaction.  He gave me not heads up. Per ebay funds wont be available til May 13th... so we talking 3-4 weeks to get paid. And I dont trust  this buyer now.... or this payment method. He even stated that he could cancel the Echeck and pay by pal. Why didnt you do that in thr beginning.  Ebay is no help at all on this matter. I have to wait to see if funds clear, then refund the buyer to cancel this transaction. Or wait so many days after.. its crazy ... any luck getting out of these and canceling this transaction?

Thats insane, the auction took 7 days, then 7 days to potentially clear, then wait additional 21 days to get paid... Thats over a month.. Hell to the nah ... I'm already talking to Ebay on a resolution

Re: Buyer pays with echeck on $1,150 auction

Thanks everyone for the replies. This matter has been taking care of and I was successfully able to get this sale canceled and be reimbursed back the final value fees. Per Ebay, they agreed this transaction method by the buyer for this amount was a Red Flag. Although Echeck is a valid payment, if the seller has suspicious feeling he can cancel. As long as he notifies the buyer, and explain why. I did so, I waited the alloted time and was in constant contact w/ ebay.  No way is a New seller going to sell a $1k item on a 7 day auction, then have to wait 7 days for funds to clear, then 3-5 days w/ shipping (mail is slow), then hold my funds for 21 days ... HELL TO THE NAH IM NOT WAITING 1.5 MONTHS TO GET PAID... THE BUYER WILL HAVE TO CANCEL THE ECHECK AND WORK W/ PAYPAL TO GET FUNDS BACK. I'LL REFUND ANY MONEY THAT COMES TO ME.

I’m gonna call B* on that. An echeck is not a red flag.

No it's like a check or money order or cash. No way to get it back through the bank. Next stop, civil court like small claims.

Re: Buyer pays with echeck on $1,150 auction

@the-flip   echecks have been known to fail and NOT clear ... some Buyers used them in hopes a Seller would "think" they got paid, ship the item then the echeck fails and the Seller is OUT the item and OUT the money and there is no way to get either back ...

A seller is specifically told by both Ebay and Paypal to NOT ship until the payment is clear. Paypal will run an echeck twice. After that it's considered an unpaid item.  If a seller is silly enough to ship when both Ebay and Paypal say to not ship, well that's on them.

Once an echeck clears, it's done. The buyer can't take it back like they can with a credit card chargeback.  Once that check clears, it's as good as cash...almost. As usual when using Paypal a buyer has their protections to use. The buyer only gets two bites of the apple (Ebay and Paypal) instead of three.

The easier you are to offend the easier you are to control.

Why on earth would you cancel???

Wait until the payment clears, you ship. You never have to ship until that e-check clears through Paypal. Once it does, there is no chance of a credit card chargeback.

You are confused. Even if you relist you will still have to wait 21 days to get the funds regardless of how the buyer pays. Are you the OP using two different I.D.'s ?
