Buyer opened a dispute from an item sold over 18 weeks ago and now eBay is holding my money.

I thought this was a non-issue and that eBay wouldn't  take action against a seller if a complaint was filed after 30 days past the expected delivery date.  I called and they said that the buyer initiated a chargeback through PayPal, but the seller protection would mean that I'll get my money back regardless - but they won't unlock it now because eBay doesn't give a **bleep** about their sellers.

I've never had someone open a dispute this long after an item was sold and shipped.  The tracking even shows that it was available for pickup in their city/country.  What is going on here?

When they do a dispute through their funding source, Ebay doesn't have any say on the outcome.

What is the reason for the dispute?

Have a great day.

Payment disputes are different than your regular INR or SNAD eBay dispute. They are filed by the buyer directly through their payment source, often because the delay to file through eBay has passed.

PayPal allows 180 days for INR disputes, 60 for SNAD. Credit cards, depending on the issuing bank, offer between 60 and 180 days.

Credit card companies allow about 6 months to dispute charges.    EBAY has no control of what credit card company does....so I would not believe EBAY when they say you will win the dispute.

You mention that item was "available" for pickup?   Did customer actually pick up this item?   If yes, you should advise credit card company item was "pick up only" and you have QR code from got from customer (to prove item was picked up).

Good luck to you...

Available for pick up from the Post Office not from the seller. There is no QR code!

There is no way for an eBay seller to "advise credit card company" because eBay will not tell you what card company made the claim.

What the OP can do it provide the tracking number to eBay, if it shows delivered or if it shows that it was available for pickup from the local post office then the OP should be covered by Seller protection.

Make sure to provide the tracking info to eBay. Credit Card chargeback take a long time (up to 60 days) to be resolved, until that time your funds will remain on hold. If the tracking shows that it was available for pickup by the buyer then eventually you will have your funds released.
