Buyer lying about item not as described?

Sold an item. eBay says I was paid. I ship the item out. The next morning, before it has even been delivered, buyer claims "item not as described." They haven't even gotten it yet! eBay put my money on hold, of course.

So what now? Everything I'm reading suggests the seller has no recourse here.

If it's one of the expensive items you just sold, try to recall the package.

Hmm :

Do an intercept on the package now if you can and have it sent back to you.

You also need to report the buyer for return abuse since the item has yet to be received.

@moridin920

Was this for the $590 item that really was just for the box?

If it's that empty box you sold, just refund the buyer.

Have a great day.

Re: Buyer lying about item not as described?

It was for the GPU. The buyer of the box contacted me and we worked that one out. Their bot went wild.

Re: Buyer lying about item not as described?

It wasn't, but thanks for the unhelpful reply. The box would have sold for $20-$30 as normal if eBay was not riddled with bots right now looking for GPUs. Buyer and I worked that one out.

I just paid USPS $15 to intercept the package. I offered the buyer a partial refund which covers my costs. If they don't take it, well, that'll be that for me selling on eBay.

Re: Buyer lying about item not as described?

I had the same thing happen to me.  One of the few times ebay actually found in my favor. The buyer can't know that it's not as described if they haven't even received it yet.

I hope they find in your favor too.

Good luck and stay safe!

Oh admit it, you wanted to cheat someone who didn't bother reading so you sold the box. Sellers like you deserve everything they get.

When a not as described case is opened, the seller is on the hook for return shipping and full refund. There are no options for a partial. But you might win this since the package isn't delivered.

If by chance you lose, be sure to appeal carefully. The appeal is where a person reviews the case. I would be very surprised if you don’t prevail. Below is the link on how to appeal.

You won't win here. All you get to do is refund.

Re: Buyer lying about item not as described?

OK, here is a literal screenshot of the return in question as well as the shipping info that says it isn't even there yet. Thanks though! 🙂

As I said, I spoke with the buyer on the box as obviously that was some bot running wild and that sale was canceled. Would you like a screenshot of that, too, or what? Why is it my fault that eBay is unable to control the bots going wild when people buy empty boxes for $10-$20 all the time. Dig a little deeper into my history and I've sold empty Lego boxes before, too. What's the issue?
