Buyer is using 2 accounts - shady behavior, what should I do?

Here’s what happened.  I listed some video games earlier today and a buyer used buy it now.  He immediately paid.  About a half hour later he messaged me and asked to cancel because he jumped the gun and didn’t realize some the games were in “used” condition.  I said yeah that’s cool no worries.

I re-listed the item.  The same person just bought it again but using a different account.  The name + shipping address match on both the cancelled item from earlier and the bought item from just now.

Just seems super shady to me, wondering what other people think?

eBay allows members to have multiple accounts.

Sure, but why cancel an item under one account and then log in on your second account and buy it?  It’s the behavior, not the fact that he has 2 accounts.  Makes no sense, raises a red flag for me.

From my experience it is a huge red flag when people buy electronics using multiple accounts to buy the same type of items.  Definitely block both user IDs.  Try googling their shipping address.  If it is a shipping forwarder you should be safe to cancel for problem with buyer's address.  I had a similar situation like this last month.  Policies are kinda iffy on this.  CS will say you should ship it, but if you aren't comfortable then don't.  They neglect to point out the potential consequences.

Re: Buyer is using 2 accounts - shady behavior, what should I do?

I did something similar awhile back. I had a promo deal on one id but not the other, and I accidentally bid on an auction with the wrong id. I retracted the bid, selecting the "wrong amount" option (since there wasn't an option that covered the reality of my retraction) and rebid with the account I wanted to use.

I messaged the seller to explain my retraction and subsequent rebid.

The main differences I can see with this deal are: 1) the potential buyer didn't message you to explain why s/he bought it a second time; and, 2) the buyer actually cost you money in fees, and my bid retraction didn't.

I think it's a bit suspicious . . .

I'd almost want to message ask if they forgot they didn't want these because some of them were used or if they changed their mind or what

You worry too much, the earth is not flat and even if it were it makes no difference.

Once the item is paid ebay tells me to ship, so I ship.

Perhaps one account is his buying account, one is for selling.  I've made that mistake.  I just recently set up my buying account.

Some people have a selling account and a buying account. It is very possible that he/she used the wrong one.
