Buyer hasn't cancelled return request after resolving an issue.

I recently sold an item and when the buyer received it, they messaged me stating that it did not work and that they wanted to return the item. After messaging me, they immediately opened a request to return. I responded to their direct message and inquired if they had put it together correctly (electronic item that comes apart in two pieces). They responded saying that there was just a piece of popcorn foam stuck between the two pieces and it was working fine now. I asked him to cancel the return request after this and I haven't gotten a response yet. I've sent him two more messages since and the request was initiated on 4/21 (4 days ago). On the request it says I need to respond by tomorrow so I choose the "send buyer a message" option and stated that we resolved the issue in direct messaging. I also attached a screenshot of our direct messages. I guess what I'm wondering is what happens if he doesn't cancel the request? I read that eBay can reimburse buyers if sellers don't respond to a return request and I'm quite paranoid that could happen here even though I've responded. I'm hoping that documenting our messages on the request so eBay can see that will help them side in my favor.

If the reason for the return was 'not received'; you simply put the tracking number in.

If the reason was anything else, you just 'approve' the return (if it's not already automatically approved) and then it will state 'waiting for buyer to ship'.

3-4 weeks later it will go away after the 'return date' has passed.

Many people are busy and don't get back on eBay for days, weeks, months and therefore may not know you are contacting them.

Ebay has a money back guarantee that applies to all buyers.  You really should start accepting returns.  No returns does not mean no refunds.  If you accept the return, you won't be out of the item and the money as well.  If you don't accept returns the buyer is not obligated to return the item and will still get a refund.  Here's some info about the MBG that may be helpful:

Hopefully the buyer will cancel the request.  Good luck.

Unless you go with return for refund: they fixing to get free stuff.

eBay will refund them for (and charge) you.

You need to "accept return" immediately.   If you refuse to "accept return" EBAY will refund buyer.

After you accepted return...it will close out automatically (takes several weeks) because customer did not "return item".

I know this is an old thread. After you "accept return" you have to provide a return label with a tracking number. How do you do this without costing you the return label. Also you are given the option of purchasing a return lable thru Ebay!!

@neon65

Unlike the original shipping label … sellers aren’t charged for return shipping labels until they are used.

Thank you, did not know that. Haven't had a return in a few years where I had to furnish a label.

Need help If possible!!

I did not realize I wouldn't be charged for a label until it was used and this is what I did before I received your Answere.

The buyer and I agreed on me shipping the missing coin and he would be happy with that. I shipped the coin and a couple days later I noticed the return request was still on my ebay. I sent him a message thru the "send a message" with no response. I came here and was advised to "accept return" which I did. It wanted a tracking number and this is where I thought it would charge me for the return label......SO, stupid me......I used the tracking number from the package I sent the buyer! Ebay picked up on the fact that it was mailed and thinks the buyer is returning the coins!:-(

So now when the buyer gets the package Monday, Ebay will think I received the coins back and will expect me to refund the money!

Is there anything I can do to correct this?? OR, is this one of thoes lessons you learn the hard way??

Sorry it is so long, any help will be appreciated.
