Buyer did not pay through ebay

Hi,

An item I had for sale ended and the buyer messaged me to ship since they had already paid but eBay did not notify me to ship and my paypal did not receive a payment.  I get an email sent to my eBay email in spanish, which is different from my paypal email, that I had received a payment.  This raised many flags as my eBay email does not have a paypal account linked to it and the email was in spanish.  I tried to explain to the buyer but they accused me of lying and kept insiting that they had paid.  The buyer sent sketchy screen shots of them "paying" then gave me negative feedback. What can I do in this situation? I have already reported the buyer. Thanks.

Well it's THEIR money that's gone into limbo, so not much you can do for them if they refuse to do anything, and you certainly shouldn't ship if you haven't received the payment (for whatever reason).

You could try calling Paypal in the morning and tell them the email the payment went to. Is the email one you know or had or used to use? Not sure if you are able to add the (wrong) email to your PP account and if that would get it to you, but they should be able to tell you if so.

Re: Buyer did not pay through ebay

After you put the bidder on your blocked list you could try doing the following: Call PayPal and ask them if that is a spoof email. On the ebay side, is the paid icon checked off next to your sold item? If it is uncheck it so it shows awaiting payment. Then open a nonpayment case against the customer.
IF YOU CAN OPEN AN UNPAID ITEM CASE YOU HAVE NOT BEEN PAID. It's that simple.
As for the money they say they sent - it didn't go to you so it's not your problem. After you close out the unpaid case call ebay and get that negative removed. Then you're good to go.

You are correct. I read that the buyer is able to cancel the payment from their transaction details but at this point the buyer is refusing to cooperate to try and work out the situation.

If you add the incorrect email address to your PayPal account you will get the payment. But I think that only works if the email address isn't already linked to a PayPal account.

Re: Buyer did not pay through ebay

After a quick check to confirm that the listing had the right paypal account configured, I would not reply.  File the unpaid item dispute when you can, close it when you can, and move on, perhaps switching to BIN/IPR to prevent this result in the future.

A "buyer" who is claiming to have paid by an alternative method is a scammer.  Plain and simple.  Normal people trying their best do not end up in this zone.  They're all scammers.

If the item is showing as not paid, how was the buyer able to leave feedback??

Paying is not a requirement for leaving feedback.

Feedback can/will be removed after completion of a UID.

I have no idea. I just got off the phone with eBay and they said the person canceled the payment already which baffles me even more.

What's baffling?

Buy won and paid to the email on the listing.

Email on the listing was wrong.

Buyer never got their item.

Buyer left negative feedback.

Seller can't figure it out until he realizes that the wrong email was on the listing.

Buyer then realizes they can cancel.

Buyer cancels.

Seller still confused?

There is no UID to be opened, buyer paid. Negative feedback will stand, buyer paid and never got the item.

I'll tell you, this is the strangest set of circumstances I've heard yet. I know I was scammed by a person who sent me a pseudo PayPal noticed saying the item had been paid for. I wasn't in great health at the time and they ended up scamming for a $400 ring.

Whats baffling is the buyer sending me message to the items after canceling his payment. The buyer gave me less than 12 hours to even notice the problem. The buyer paid on Friday evening then gave me negative feedback Saturday early afternoon without even a message. How am I supposed to get their item to if I don't get an address to ship to? When I tried to explain the situation after getting help here the buyer refused to listen or cooperate.

Re: Buyer did not pay through ebay

Obviously scamming you. Fake email from PayPal. Notice that it says it's from member@paypal rather than service@paypal. Leaving you the neg was part of the plan to make you panic and jump into action, sending him the unpaid-for item -- nothing more than a scare tactic.

You would not receive an email from PayPal indicating payment from an email not attached to your PayPal account. He sent you the fake email. This scam is common on eBay. Both fake PayPal and eBay emails are often sent. He was not counting on your being savvy enough to double check both PayPal and eBay to confirm that payment was actually received. Kudos on doing both!

As others have said, after 48 hours following the end of the auction,  you can open an Unpaid Item Case. Do not correspond with him further. He will not pay, and after 96 hours following opening of the UPI, you can have it closed in your favor and have the negative FB removed.I

Best of luck!

Re: Buyer did not pay through ebay

There is no scam, there is no fake payment notification.

Buyer went through eBay checkout, which paid the unintended email address you have, and still have, on your listing.

Then buyer contacted you via that unintended email address, because that's your email address shown on the buyer's PayPal transaction Details page.

Normally you would add that unintended email address to your PayPal account and the payment will come right through.

But because the buyer has left negative feedback, and because eBay still does not show a payment even though the buyer did pay and then cancelled the payment to the unintended email address, you can open an unpaid item dispute and close it after 4 days to have that negative feedback removed.

You do not want to complete this transaction.
