I know there are several posts here with similar stories, but the other day someone bought a game from me for $70. I shipped it to out the next day, and got an email from them in my gmail account (not sure why I was not contacted through ebay) claiming he/she didn't intend to buy the item, but was checking out the price for another person buying the same game from them. Sounds fishy to me, but I am open to the possibility that he didnt intend to click the buy now button, so I offered a refund if he sends it back.
The next day I got a message saying the buyer is claiming an unauthorized transaction through PayPal, and the funds are on hold. That's rather irritating, and makes me reconsider the refund I offered.
Does anybody have experience with buyers claiming they didn't intend to buy an item, and giving suspicious excuses? What are my chances of either getting my game back, or the money I am owed?

You don't want the game back you want to keep the money!
Just follow the instructions in the PayPal notice of Unauthorized Use. Generally this means uploading the tracking information to the claim in the Resolution Center.
The tracking doers not need to show delivered it is only to confirm that you shipped to the correct address. The claim may take a few days to be closed, it might take a bit longer but as long as you comply with the requirements you CANNOT lose.

I have had almost $5000 in disputes and unauthorized payments in 2018. Every single dollar was returned to me by PayPal. The only times I have “lost” was when buyers returned items to me after ebay ruled the return closed in my favor but the buyer shipped the return back to me anyway (well beyond 30 days) and then PayPal refunded them.
