Buyer had initially contacted me to see if I would sell item at a discount. I replied back that I was firm on the price. A few hours later she messages me again asking for a discount on shipping. I don’t reply as I was at work and didn’t see the message until many hours after. In the meantime she purchased the item, hasn’t paid, and once again messaged me saying “other similar items have cheaper shipping”. I’m stuck on how to handle this as I’m pretty firm on both the item price and the shipping price. I’m thinking of just ignoring her and her messages until she either pays or until I can open a unpaid item claim.

You may get different advice.
My advice is...
Stick to your guns.
Politely remind her there is no shipping discount
or ignore her question all together since you already answered it.
If/when she pays, ship it.

I would stick to your price and politely ask her if she would like you to cancel the sale since she has found it cheaper elsewhere.

I don't know about you, but in this day and age, every dollar counts. If they cannot agree to the price you posted for shipping, let them find it somewhere cheaper (like they stated) and cancel the sale. You're not running a bargain basement and even there, those prices stand firm as well. Stick to your guns.

Why are you "stuck" about how to handle answering a simple question? You were able to post an answer to it here.
(I am assuming your shipping costs are an accurate reflection of the actual shipping costs.)

Report for policy violation. Asking for discounts, etc. after the fact is a violation. If she wanted to, she could have purchased the "other similar items with cheaper shipping". I would block and cancel. You have a good chance if she pays and you ship that you will end up with and not as described or charge back problems. My experience is people like this almost always end up being a headache and not worth the sale.

I agree with dbfolks166mt. Ask if she wants to cancel.

Tell him you'll give him a 50% discount on shipping. But you can only send it halfway there.

I would politely respond to the buyer that ebay takes a percent of every sale and that includes the shipping price! Most buyers then shut up after that and usually pay! 💀

Other similar items may be located closer to the buyer. If you are in mood to do so you can, as suggested, graciously offer to cancel the sale so the said (not) buyer can purchase the product with the less expensive shipping elsewhere. You are not required to "price match"...LOL.
Or
Wait til day 5 and cancel for non-payment. Though one might be tempted to suggest that "asking for something not in the listing" post sale is a policy violation, I would just keep that to myself and hope they don't pay. Pita buyers are often worse after they pay and the product arrives. Good luck!

Open the unpaid item claim if they do not pay.
Often times the other items that have cheaper shipping are higher priced but closer to the buyer so they show a cheaper shipping, but they wield this as if it means you are a terrible seller and over charging.
Your price, your shipping your item. They chose to buy from you, they pay the price shown for the item and the shipping.

It is never a good idea to simply ignore anything on this platform. That will only work against you. Reply what you've already told her and stick to your guns. Ask if she prefers you to cancel order. Be sure to block her if you do cancel. If she pays you have no alternative but to ship. Best of luck to you....

I just cancel citing problem with buyers address and block them on the spot, problem solved. If you report your buyer, they will be in a heap of trouble, as its against the rules to argue over the price after a sale.
Buyers are not allowed to ask for anything that was not offered in the listing, that includes changes to the price. Once they click buy it now they are obligated to pay the price the listing states, shipping included.
