Buyer admits error in giving me negative feedback, eBay won't remove it? Seriously?

I can't believe eBay is jamming me up like this. I sold a 7" record to a buyer who thought it was a CD single. They left me a negative feedback because of it, even though the listing said "7" vinyl 45 RPM" and there were multiple photos. The feedback states that he made the mistake and even concluded it with "My bad."

OK, if it's YOUR BAD then why are you negative-feed backing me? This person did not open a return or even message me to see what could be done.

For my turn I informed them that they can open a return for a refund, asked them to revise the feedback, and even LOOKED UP a listing for the CD version of what they bought from me. They started to act as if they didn't know how to do a return, and asked me for a return address (which was on the package but I digress). I asked them to open a return through eBay, print the shipping label, and send it back for a refund.

Then they said that they weren't sure how to revise the feedback, but that they would send the record back after they recorded it to a CD. They opened the return but have until 1/19 to ship it back. However, they have yet to revise that feedback. When I asked eBay to step in and remove it they said they couldn't because it doesn't violate their policies.

Tell me, eBay, how does allowing a negative feedback to stand when it was clearly written in error, where the buyer ADMITTED that they made a mistake, not get automatically removed? I'm supposed to wait until they send it back or just give them a refund and hope I get it back before you will do anything, but now I have a negative mark on my store for something that isn't even remotely my goddamned fault?

Do better, eBay. I know I'm very small potatoes but have some common sense. Read our back and forth. This buyer clearly isn't playing with a full deck and I shouldn't be the one to suffer for his inexperience or lack of comprehension.

You should send customer FEEDBACK REVISION REQUEST and ask them to change it.   Don't bother contacting EBAY because they won't remove negative feedback (they just consider it opinion and doesn't have to be factual).

In order to revise the feedback, the buyer must receive a formal "Feedback revision request" from you within 30 days after leaving the negative rating, then the buyer has 10 days to respond.

I recommend that you hold off a bit until the return issue gets straightened out, otherwise the ten days might run out before the buyer gets their refund and is ready to revise.    Some sellers would have reduced the aggravation by just issuing the refund without forcing the buyer to go through the process of returning the item.

IDK, that seems a bit misguided if a buyers "aggravation" with purchasing an item that they even say was their own mistake/'their bad', sounds like it should be their own responsibility and not the sellers.

It's not really fair to imply that a seller should take a loss on a sale, just in order to prevent negative feedbacks, when it was the buyers admitted mistake. That sounds a lot more like it's implying feedback extortion, than anything the seller did wrong.

Yes, the seller did nothing wrong. I meant the aggravation that the seller is experiencing due to trying to arrange the return before refunding, including paying return shipping on a $12 sale, waiting to see whether the buyer will follow through, etc.

The buyer is going to rip it to a CD before he sends it back?

I believe that's illegal.

A revision for feedback which can only be done in 30 days...after 30 days buyer cannot change feedback.

I had the same situation...after 30 days not eBay or the buyer can do anything.

Phone eBay and when you get a CS rep, insist that they connect you to a feedback specialist.

The item sold on December 12, so that's 14 days ago.  Allowing a couple of days for shipping and reacting, there's still over 2 weeks left to resolve this. But the seller should keep an eye on the calendar, and not let that 30 days lapse before sending the revision request.

Maybe the laws different in the US but I believe making a copy for personal use is OK as long as you have the original.

So mistake or whatever the buyer really should keep hold of that record.

Why would you not simply contact the buyer and explain the situation? If you want, you can tell them you will refund the item price if they return it (but not the shipping cost, because this was not your error).  Or tell them you will refund the whole amount .  After that has happened, ask if you can send them a FB Revision Request.

I Have EXACTLY same situation here in UK.. I have had 100% feedback since 2006 . Sold an American Harley Davidson crash helmet to a guy.  All good did not here from him. Next thing a few weeks later gave me a negative review as it doesn't fit his head .? What ?  Helmet was mint condition  nothing wrong with description or anything. He never asked for a refund or rang me nothing . Just left this review and will not take it off. it just mental ! It's not my fault if it does not fit your head it clearly says AVG model number everything.  So frustrating .  Makes you think if it's worth bothering on eBay anymore.  All I can think of is revenge is a dish best served cold.
