Hey all. So, I'm pretty new to selling, and decided to unload a bunch of stuff I don't really need anymore for some extra cash. It's gone great so far, with only one possible hiccup (and that's another issue entirely)... until today.
One of my items was bought within an hour of listing by an account that apparently registered solely to buy that item. The buyer payed immediately - but of course, I still have the 'new seller hold' on PayPal - and the address that shows up on the shipping label is technically valid, it's just a little... off. Here's what it looks like:
Buyer's Name
Business Name 8021 sugerplum avenue south (street name is all lowercase, misspelled by one letter, and on same line as address)
Suite 3
Sometown NY 10515
Searching that address on Google yields "8021 S Sugarplum Ave #3," so wouldn't the correct format for the shipping address be:
Buyer's Name
Business Name
8021 S Sugarplum Ave #3
Sometown NY 10515
?
I've heard that changing the address will screw me out of seller protection in the case of any mishaps or disputes and is generally a bad idea, but I'm concerned about this, as the package is heavy, costs a lot to ship, and is decently valuable. Would my suggested alterations count as "changing the address," or should I just slap the label on it as-is, chuck it at the post office, and let them sort it out? Am I worrying too much?

On the new version, nothing unusual - the standard "You may not be covered by the eBay Seller Protection Policy if you ship to a different address" disclaimer was there, but nothing showing my eligibility was there, before or after. When I tried the same with "Classic label printing," however, the "Eligible for seller protection" indicator disappeared if I made ANY alterations, even correcting the single-letter typo in the street address.
But again: you are not changing the address; you are correcting it. The package still goes to the same location.
Also: Delivery Confirmation proves delivery only to the buyer's City and ZIP; it does not take into account the street address. It wouldn't matter even if you did change the street address to some other location (which you are not doing in this case), as long as the destination City and 5-digit ZIP are not changed.
*sigh* I don't know what to do. I wouldn't worry if the buyer actually had feedback, but his account is a day old. I can't help but think that this is some kind of scam - something to get me to "fix" the address, lose my seller protection, and open the floodgates for shenanigans - when it's probably just genuine ignorance.
It's genuine ignorance. Not everyone knows how to spell the name of their own street, especially if they've only just moved there. After you've sold here for a while, you will start to notice how many buyers can't even capitalize their own names properly in their shipping addresses (which I suspect is one reason why the "classic" Shipping form folds the recipient name to ALL CAPITAL LETTERS for legibility).
Just fix the address and ship the darn thing out.

"Delivery Attempted - No Access to Delivery Location"
I have seen that same message recently. It may have been the business was close that day. They should reattempt delivery the next business day. Hopefully everything with your item will be okay.
Mine was also an international sale. It was a week ago Monday that is was marked delivered to the U.S. address. I just got the buyers feedback this Monday. Was $500 item so I was I happy it made it there okay.
Once you have it delivered to the U.S. address, you should be okay.
Easier said than done, but try not to stress about it.
Best of luck!

I just checked the tracking and it was delivered this morning. One situation resolved! Now I'm relieved... partially, at least. Aside from issues actually preventing them from accessing the address - like weather/closed business or street/mean dogs - my "research" tells me that the USPS will often use that code when the item was sorted to the wrong post office for delivery, or they're nearing the end of their shift and won't be able to get to it that day. It's more convenient for them than leaving a card with the recipient, I s'pose.

Thank you all for your kind responses - I truly appreciate it.
So, I ended up just sending the package out with the address exactly as-is, and purchasing/printing the label only made it worse.
What was:
Buyer's Name
Business Name 8021 sugerplum avenue south
Suite 3
Sometown NY 10515
Became:
Buyer's Name
Suite 3
Business Name 8021 sugerplum avenue south
Sometown NY 10515
Really, I can't help but laugh at this point.
