Buyer Wishes to Cancel Return Request

I have a buyer who placed a return request for an item he received from me that was defective.  It was a minor defect, he really wanted the item.  He took it to a repair shop and we have agreed to split the cost of the repair.  I wish to refund him for that expense..... Does he need to cancel the return request?  If so, how does he do that.  I want to make sure that the item is closed as complete with eBay before I make the refund.....only to find out he continues to pursue and I'm out a bundle... Please advise.  Thank you.

Buyer goes to the Returns Request, and there should be an option to cancel the request.

Once that is done, you can go to the Orders > Paid & Shipped

Click the down-arrow, and then click on Refund, and type in the amount you wish to refund.
