Buyer Waits Five Months to File Item Not As Described Through PayPal

I just got a PayPal complaint five months after the transaction completed successfuly. The buyer was happy with the transaction and asked me to sell him more.  Contacted eBay they tell me I am protected but PayPal different story. I shipped the item to the address on the eBay invoice, and the buyer's shipping address unconfirmed and different from the eBay address. I uploaded all the documents showing the buyer was pleased, a screenshot of positive feedback received, and the emails from the buyer asking for me to sell them more of the product. Why wait five months to file a dispute with a credit card claiming an item not as described?

Be aware of these types of buyers, keep all records!

I had this same issue. I did as you did, it took about a month but was found in my favor. Apparently with paypal and some credit companies the buyer can dispute this up to 180 days.

I hope you win this one, but don't be surprised if you still lose, even with all that documentation.

Please come back and relate how it turned out for you!

Yeah, but can be frustrating! Takes time away from your business when buyers try to fraud you!

Yes.  Keep all records is the understatement.  At least you still have the emails - sometimes that far out they can gone from your ebay emails.  When I respond, I do click to send a copy to my personal email for this season.

You did BBL this guy, right?

Good luck on your chargeback.  Hope you win.  5 months is a really long time.  Was this an expensive item?

I have a file on my laptop that keeps all responses from sellers for this purpose! eBay can't go that far back! Luckily the item was just $44, but if this type of behavior happens a lot those small payments add up.  My return policy was if not satisfied return the product within 30 days for a full refund no questions asked and I even paid for the return shipping! It was cologne by cool water! eBay protected me and said no worries on their end! The buyer probably out of the cologne now, short of money and wanting to buy more from another seller. Just wanted to get this out there, so other sellers can be prepared for this behavior.

@mywholesalemart Call Paypal at 888-221-1161

I believe they still work on a Saturday, if my memory serves me.

When the Paypal robot answers, say the word "Escalations" into the phone. You should get connected to the Escalations dept. There is a Dispute department which handles Disputes. However, Escalations is higher then Disputes. By the way, if ever they do not transfer you to Escalations, call back & say the word Disputes into the phone when the robot answers. A Dispute agent can transfer you to Escalations.

Explain to Escalations what happened & have them put notes in manually while you are on the phone.

The notes will be evaluated by the case agent, your case is assigned to. You can even ask the Escalations agent if he/ she can look at the case on the phone & close it out, because the buyer is trying to engage in fraud. You have proof the buyer was satisfied through messages & this person waited over 5 months to file a complaint.

By the way, I am not sure if the Disputes or Escalations departments work on the weekend. I know that standard Paypal agents do. You may want to wait until Monday, so you can speak to those specialized department that hold more power. Best of luck, hope it works out.

Yes.  Know the sting of how this adds up.

Was hoping (not for you to be our high $$) that you would say it was expensive.

My ongoing concern is that this practice will be applied liberally to any transaction- where in the past it tended to be higher dollar items.

Hope you win.  Let us know.  Good luck.

Re: Buyer Waits Five Months to File Item Not As Described Through PayPal

This is one of the rare times I'm glad to be in  (mis)managed payments.  I have to wonder why a credit card company or Paypal would allow a dispute to be filed this far out.   I guess  if the "buyer" buys more stuff with their card and runs up more interest charges the credit company makes money on the deal in the long run.
