I've been on Ebay since 2005...I got this strange email message today about a book I have for sale:
"....Hi, I am very interested in purchasing this book and I was wondering if you could revise the checkout system to Pay On Pickup as a select payment option? All you have to do is add it where it says Pay With right at the top of the screen where it has the payment selections and above my name and address too. It is easier for me and it usually works for me too to purchase this book...."
Buyer emailed me in July, asking to buy it with a Money Order, and never sent one. Ebay auto-opened an unpaid item case, then closed it. I relisted it a week ago.
This Buyer lives in Virgina and I'm in California, so (at first glance) her "Pay on Pickup" request is ridiculous. I was going to reply to ask what the problem is, but decided to block her instead. I don't need this hassle.
What bothers me is "It is easier for me and it usually works for me too" comment. By having someone lie at checkout? In an email sent an hour before, she claims "My account was hacked." I'm thinking I dodged a bullet.
Anyone else ever get this type of message? What did you do?
Thanks,
Dawn
Northern California

Beware that Ebay is currently attracting a new and different species that are making contact.

Do not try to make sense of some requests. It will make you crazy.
Just block and move on.

Add to your BBL and don't even respond.
I've never had a request that crazy...yet lol

You aren't implying that "pay on pickup" means "free shipping", are you?

@chapeau-noir- that takes me back.

eBay may show it as free shipping. Then buyer will demand free shipping.

Pay on pick up sounds like shipping collect (COD). I do not belive that is an option on Ebay. If memory serves me correctly USPS ended their COD service a few yeasr ago. UPS might still have COD services, but that use to cost extra.

Pay on pick up means the buyers pays but they must go to the seller's location, inspect, pay, and take the item with them. Like a pre arranged yard sale.

Have you researched the book, to see if you have it priced at what it is worth. Sometimes, when I get these type of messages, it makes me want to re-check the value of the item listed. FYI

Ebay auto-opened an unpaid item case, then closed it.
The same buyer?
In any case.
Put her on your Blocked Bidder List as a time-waster.
And on Buyer Requirements add the automatic Block on bidders with Strikes for Unpaid Items.

Yes, the same Buyer. I blocked her already, since she's a proven waste of time.
I already did my Buyer requirements to prevent Non-USA Buyers, and Buyers with Unpaid Strikes. Good call! Took me some digging to find the Block list!
She just sounded so kooky I thought it was a new scam or something...Nothing surprises me on Ebay.
