Buyer Gave wrong address. Parcel bounced back by USPS and I have to pay $40.

Buyer Gave wrong address. Parcel bounced back by USPS and I have to pay $40 return postage. Buyer opened a claim and lost. Item value is cheap but postage is expensive. Yes I will get my item back, but value is low and I lost $30. I know it's not huge money, but money is money. Anyway to recover this lost when this is not my fault?

Your choices were to pay $40 to recover the item and lose $30, or abandon the item and lose $10. Is that accurate? Is this a done deal or can you still choose the latter option and abandon the item for a minimal loss?

 

There's no way to recover the loss from eBay. You can resell the item and hope to recover your loss that way.

 

Here in the US you can claim the loss on your income taxes - not sure how the system is set up in Canada.

     Not sure of the class of postage you sent the package with but USPS does not generally charge return shipping for an item that was returned to the sender because it was undeliverable. However you are in Canada so not sure if the rules are the same.

     Not sure what the item was/is or what your original postage costs was. You are under no obligation to refund the buyer but  if you do I would limit the refunds to what is left from the total sale price of the item minus the original postage and fees.

I think we all need more details!

 

Sounds like the buyer needs to be reported. They gave the wrong address and then tries to open a case that package is lost. 

 

There should be no charge to you for return on an undeliverable package.

I just had a similar return, Because the customer moved & never updated their Info, It was returned due to no forwarding available so I was not charged, refunded the customer for the item, but not the shipping.

Yes you are correct, but since I have another carrier ship the package on my behalf (which uses USPS). The return shipping cost is automatically billed to me even I chose to abandon the package.  Yes, I can claim the loss on my income tax.
