Hi!
I recently sold a NIB pair of size 8 Sorel boots. I do not offer returns, as I am not a store just sell my personal things. However, the buyer filed an item does not match description or photos and then messaged.
“Hi, I ordered pair of Sorel boots. Normally, I wear a 7 1/2 size shoe but with boots I order size 8 as I wear heavier socks. I received the boots in size 8 and they are way to small (even though I ordered 1/2 size bigger). Would like to return for refund”
I not sure what to do. I explained I am not a store and that I listed as a size 8 which they are. This seems like a false claim to get their money back. I did write back I would be willing to reimburse for the actual boots minus any shipping fees. (Otherwise I’m out almost $30 in shipping, because of what seems like buyers remorse).
Any advice? I haven’t heard back and EBay said I have to wait 3 days to ask them to step in.

You have the message the buyer sent you. Make sure & let E-bay know to read that. You should win then. It was there fault. Good luck!!
Bad advice.

I didn’t. I ordered them from Sorel on sale and then we moved to Texas. I was just trying to get my money back at a small loss. So I listed them. I know every shoe company is so different and that’s why I just put the size. I feel like as a buyer I always do my research on shoes. I would have offered to refund the money spent on the boots but not shipping as now I am out $30 plus on top of fees and what I paid for the boots. But the buyer obviously knew what they were doing and filed an item not as described.
I really don’t know how ebay stores stay in business!
I will stick to Poshmark from now on! Their policy is better for things like this.

Thank you! I will be reporting because I don’t want this to happen to others and EBay needs to look at their process. What a bummer but a huge lesson learned! I’m glad people were honest , because I wanted to fight the injustice. But in the end it sounds like I would have lost even more!

Thank you!! Yes, this is the first time this has ever happened. I’ve always had great buyers and was just naive, my bad. I was so used to Poshmark I guess. No returns means no returns. If there is a dispute they actually look at it.
I am not sure why ebay has a no return option? Luckily, I can personally afford this and will take it as an expensive lesson, but there are other people who can’t and it’s unfortunate. So is life I guess
thank you for your advice!

If you spent close to $100, with shipping, for a pair of boots and they were too small to wear -- despite being sized by the maker as 1/2 size larger than you normally wear -- would you just shrug and forget about it? No. You would want your money back. So does your buyer.
I know having the return hurts and is a hassle, but you're in retail sales now and your customers have the same expectation that they will be satisfied with their purchases as you do when you shop.

Ebay has a no returns option for sellers who are trs, that means they dont have to accept remorse returns.

@andreagranos wrote:It absolutely seems like buyers are going to figure this out and either get a full refund with free shipping by filing a false claim. Or just get to keep the money and also get the item.
Is it worth leaving negative feedback warning other sellers?I’ve already removed my other items off of EBay because I can’t afford all of this mess!
They figured this out a long time ago!
When a seller has NO Returns, the only way a buyer can file against them is by stating Item Not As Described. Ebay's guarantee states they will receive the item as described or get their money back. This forces the buyer to say it's not as described when they have an issue on a No Returns listing, whether it's true or not. Ebay doesn't care.
I never sell items here a buyer has to try on or plug in. They never seem to fit or work right once in the buyer's hands! Vast manufacturer sizing differences is to blame for clothing/shoes.
You can't warn other sellers, as there is no negative feedback allowed regarding buyers.
Sorry this has been a costly poor experience for you. I'm surprised you didn't stay with PM if they back the sellers.

@andreagranos The return isn't the problem.
The buyer admitted in eBay message that they wanted to return because they were too small, but opened the return case stating NAD. Big difference for the seller.

Agree that a 'no returns' policy isn't a great idea - I offer 30 day buyer pays returns because I know some things just don't work out, but OP says the return is not the problem, really, it's eating all the shipping. Somehow I don't think this comes under "you're in retail sales now" - it's just flat out trying to get around having to pay return shipping for an item that simply does not fit (rather than being defective in some way). Many sites offering discount pricing (and eBay is basically a discount site) do not offer free returns.

@silverstatetreasureboxes wrote:@andreagranos. May I ask a question, were these your boots and did you try them on? The reason for asking is I wanted to purchase a pair of these that came into my Thrift shop where I work and they were new. I tried them on as they were my size and ouch! I would have had to gone up an entire size in those things. I don't know who makes Sorel boots but their sizing is strange. So quite possible your buyer is telling the truth, she just went about it all wrong. They are really cute boots but man they sure don't feel good on the tootsies!
I think Sorel does having sizing issues. Just for giggles, I spent the last little while looking at customer reviews of Sorel winter boots. With some styles, there were numerous complaints about the boots being too large. With other styles there were numerous complaints about the boots being too small. One reviewer bought a pair of winter ankle boots and a pair of winter tall boots and couldn't wear either pair, one being too small and one being too large -- although both were ordered in the same size. For the riding boots, it actually says: "Runs small. Order a size up."

@silverstatetreasureboxes wrote:@maxine*j. Interesting, I know when I tried on that pair I couldn't wait to get them off, LOL my feet were cramping up!!! Do you have any idea where these things are manufactured Maxine?
When Sorel was bought by Columbia Sportswear, in 2000, manufacturing was taken offshore. All Sorel footwear is now made in China and Vietnam. I know you're surprised to hear that. 😄

That's not going to make any difference.
Sellers have had messages from buyers, admitting they've taken items apart, dropped the item and it broke, the item is fine, just don't want it anymore and the seller is still forced to refund.
