I'm worried I might be caught in some kind of scam. I listed a GPU box with the accessories (poster, stickers) for $200, including in big red text that it was just the box and no GPU, and someone bought it. The listing states no returns. I haven't shipped it yet. How do I avoid a scam? Do I ship with a signature even though Ebay doesn't require it? Should I take photos of the item and after it's packaged? What's the most secure move here?
I don't want to cancel the order because I've already done that twice and Ebay's charged me $0.60 already. Right now I've lost more money trying to list and sell my item than actually made money.

Update: Ended up being scammed. The scamming buyer filed a chargeback with their bank, won, and now I'm out $200, the box, and shipping. Had to call to negotiate to get out of an additional arbitrary $20 Ebay charge for processing the dispute. I had even posted multiple images of proof of the item being packed in the chargeback proof image section.
To everyone who posted in this thread, please be more cautious in the future about the advice you give. In this case, the misleading advice given in this thread ("just pack and ship it," "send a confirmation message before shipping") ended up harming the person you were trying to help.

You listed an empty box for $200?
And you believe they are trying to scam you?
I didn't see the item under your sold listings but I hope the photos weren't misleading..
Too many people do not read the description..
I hope you don't end up with a INAD for empty box..
There really is no way to prevent the claims- you do not need sig confirmation unless the item is $750+. Photos of a package will not do any good.

Send a message to the buyer asking them if they are aware it is 'just the box'. If it goes south, you can 'cancel and refund' and you will get your final value fees returned, and be out nothing on shipping.

How do I avoid a scam?
Every transaction on eBay carries the risk of a scam or fraud. The only way to avoid it is to not sell here.
Do I ship with a signature even though Ebay doesn't require it?
That will not help you avoid a scam or fraud.
Should I take photos of the item and after it's packaged?

Here is how eBay works:
You seem uncomfortable with this process. Perhaps selling on eBay is not for you.

I do not see this magical $200 box.

I looked up the going rate on similar boxes.
Saw one for 500.00.
As long as you listed it correctly...
that one doesn't seem right.

I didn't see the "box" either. I did see a Play Station 5 you have posted for some $850.00 or so. I see a scam waiting to happen. You "do not accept returns" really means when a claim is filed on this item like oh lets say an INAD. Ebay may let the buyer keep the item and refund the buyer on their purchase. You might want to change your Return Policy. With a FB score of 145, scammers will be attracted to you like a magnet. That LG laptop looks awful nice at $1250. I would REALLY be MORE worried when you sell ANY of your Very High Dollar items other than the $200 dollar empty box. You do have alot of High Dollar Items. Best of Luck

The time to worry about being scammed is before you list an item, not after it's been sold.
If the buyer paid, pack it up and ship it,.

A signature won't do any good.
Once the buyer receives the package and see's they paid $200 for an empty box, you'll be refunding.

Selling an empty box for $200 seems like a scam itself. Customer may get super **bleep** and leave you nasty feedback.
Just so you know...there really is no such thing as "no returns" because EBAY Money Back Guarantee supersedes your return policy. Customers can return any item just by claiming "defective, counterfeit, not as described" (and you get stuck paying shipping BOTH ways). Customers are NOT required to prove their claims.

“I'm worried I might be caught in some kind of scam...”
I’m sorry, but just want to clarify what you are asking—what kind of scam are you caught in? Did the buyer contact you for some reason? What is it that has you spooked?

Selling a box for $200 that sells regularly for as much as $500 is a scam?
That's another problem with these boards, you get folks injecting their opinion on items they don't know anything about selling.

No. At $200, Delivery Confirmation is all you need. Signature Confirmation is only required for sales of $750 or more to maintain seller protection against an Item Not Received dispute. Below that price point, DC will achieve the same thing, and SC would only inconvenience the buyer, if he's not home at delivery time.
@thewhitetiger5 wrote:Should I take photos of the item and after it's packaged?
Don't bother. That shows nothing about what happened to the package either before or after the photos were taken.
I'm curious about why you would list an empty box for $200, and then freak out when someone actually bought it...?

Tbh I would Message the buyer and say something like this:
"Hello Buyer! Before I ship this item, I wanted to confirm with you that you are not getting the GPU itself, but the box. I have stated this in my listing, and wanted to reach out to you, so you understand what you are getting. As soon as I hear back from you I will send out the item or cancel it if you choose. Thank you!"
Also if you do redo the listing I would mark the condition "For Parts or Not Working" (If applicable.) The only reason I say this is because if you mark your listing as "New" then most buyers would assume there is a product in there. And if you have any instruction manuals, plastic holders for the GPU, or just the box I would specify that as well (Buyers love Details)
Now you are always at risk of something we call an INAD (Item Not As Described.) This is a return reason that forces a seller to refund the buyer and give them the choice of keeping the item (or return and you pay shipping.) Now if your listing said "New" then you cant fight the INAD. The reason I said "For Parts or Not Working" might seem like a reasonable condition is because the box is part of the GPU when you buy it (packaging) so with that condition, you may win an INAD, but I cannot say for sure.
Also on a personal note, I feel like selling an empty box for 200....well, you get where I am going with this, but as a seller, I don't judge others

You are not showing any box sold for $200. We would need to see the listing to understand why this person didn't realize it was for a box only. With that said, do not ship until after you are 100% sure from the buyer that they want just a box for $200 ( I doubt).
