I'm worried I might be caught in some kind of scam. I listed a GPU box with the accessories (poster, stickers) for $200, including in big red text that it was just the box and no GPU, and someone bought it. The listing states no returns. I haven't shipped it yet. How do I avoid a scam? Do I ship with a signature even though Ebay doesn't require it? Should I take photos of the item and after it's packaged? What's the most secure move here?
I don't want to cancel the order because I've already done that twice and Ebay's charged me $0.60 already. Right now I've lost more money trying to list and sell my item than actually made money.

I've sold shoe bags (printed bags that come with Cydqwoq, Fluevog, etc.,). People like their shoe bags.
I designed and made a shoe bag once... I was doing lots of cruises and needed a nice lined bag for a couple of pairs of dance shoes. I got the thick plush velvet fabric on a cruiseship stop in St Petersburg.
But reading this makes me think I should make more shoe bags and try to sell them here (alongside all the other bags I make). I have learnt new techniques for putting in a zipper that will work well in a shoe bag. My shoe bags include a zippered pocket plus another pocket for a shoe horn.
I have an armoire of fabric... I should start sewing again (but only after I get my 1000 items listed on eBay... I've done 450 so far).

I speak French and fort and forte are masculine and feminine. I went out with someone 20 years ago who corrected my spelling in an email telling me I was spelling it the Italian way (which doesn't even mean strength...) People do say "for-tay" though all the time when they mean forte, so I didn't fault this guy too much about this, plus he's Italian.

I was interested in this because I sell boxes too. I do not have anything too useful to add.
I think the thing that struck me as not good listing practice while checking similarly listed items, was the detailed item specifics that were included in most...they were the specifics of the GPU that actually came IN the box.
If you are selling a box...it is a box....it doesn't have ports and power supplies and whatnot.

Never did see that magical box. Oh well (I get selling empty boxes BTW, just not for $200 - dug all over my basement and didn't find any $200 boxes, just ones with the Amazon Smirk and Chewy).
I didn't even try to look...why bother?
I sell empty boxes too... usually they are "empty" Steebooks (for video games) - Steelbook Only No Game - game is usually worth notta, a few bucks, it's the packaging (Steelbook) people want. I have in the past sold empty boxes for various iPhones, iPad, Samsung, etc... (yeah people really do buy them) but it's not my how to say...forte(?)...idk.. wrote too much now lolForte is correct, also spelt fort (but pronounced slightly differently) meaning strong.
Forte (pronounced for-tay) is Italian for loud.
It bugs me when people spell it right in French and then get criticized for using the Italian version when they are basically spelt the same, but mean different things.

@sin-n-dex english is hard to get such words right, especially when, if I am correct, which I think I am, but to actually spell/pronounce it correct it would be Forté ? (with the diacritical mark above the e). When I did record label deal with a lot of overseas bands... some of them really get upset if you exclude a diacritical mark in their band name...understandable, but hard to remember such when writing english.
And it only gets worse since that conclusion...

Seller should check if buyer is currently selling that brand new card in the box and purchase it.

The accent is for Italian (if they use an accent, I'm not sure). Fort is pronouned "for" and Forte is pronounced "fort". The t is silent without the e after it. In french we use accents, but this word doesn't have one.

Sounds like you are the one doing the scamming. Most buyers instantly try to buy a gpu that cheap.

@thewhitetiger5 wrote:Update: Ended up being scammed. The scamming buyer filed a chargeback with their bank, won, and now I'm out $200, the box, and shipping. Had to call to negotiate to get out of an additional arbitrary $20 Ebay charge for processing the dispute. I had even posted multiple images of proof of the item being packed in the chargeback proof image section.
To everyone who posted in this thread, please be more cautious in the future about the advice you give. In this case, the misleading advice given in this thread ("just pack and ship it," "send a confirmation message before shipping") ended up harming the person you were trying to help.
This is where I want to explicitly say "I told you so" but honestly, you kind of set yourself up for this. I am not trying to come off as rude, but I do not think there are any buyers who want to buy packaging for 200 dollars, at the very least, it can be a tad misleading.
@thewhitetiger5 , Nobody forced you to ship the item. This was done at your best judgement. We cannot impose or force a seller on here to do something, and our advice is opinionated. If you chose to sell the item and message the buyer, that was your own choice.
You decided to ship the item, the buyer filed a chargeback, and you incurred a loss. There is nobody to blame but yourself at that point. We don't even see this listing, so for all I know, this could be a hypothetical question or a sale off of ebay.

You should think twice before doing it.

oh yeah, sure, there is market for that too, fit right in with the purse storage bags like Coach etc... another not my forte but there is a market for it, doubt getting $200 for them, $10 - $30 if lucky, but, like I have to many, those smaller money items can add up and actually create more sales for you then those "large ticket items"
The bags (for instance) take about two minutes to photo and list, and almost no time to pack and ship. If I get them with my shoes or find really nice pristine ones, it's like $8 in my pocket in the space of 5 minutes - hard to beat that kind of hourly, but yeah, it's like beer money.
Oh! I see the evening non-sequitur shift is on duty. I admire your tidy house!

I am thinking this whole topic is a scam. Strange the OP came here asking about preventing being scammed then magically says he got scammed. Never mentions anything about a buyer filing a claim with Ebay. My guess is the OP refused the return of the empty box scam so the buyer had no choice but to do a charge back with their bank.
