Buy it now or best offer

Are you absolutely certain there was not a misunderstanding somewhere?

Reserves cost a seller extra money, so it's hard to understand how eBay could require that.

I think you need to turn off the reserve.

Reserves are only used for auctions. And no one is ever required, under any circumstances, to use a reserve.

Both BIN and Best Offer are available for both the auction and Fixed Price formats. You should make sure you’re using the intended format.

Did the following explanation answer your question last year?

Visionary

If you have an auction style listing, and want to add a Buy It Now price, that price must be a minimum of 30% of the starting price for the auction.  Years ago, listings prices for auction style listings and fixed price listings had different prices.  Some sellers figured they could save $ if they started their auction with a BIN of just a few cents or dollars more, so eventually ebay required the BIN to be at least 30% higher."

I think you are mistaken.

Buy it now/best offer does not require a reserve.
