But, I like Paypal. why change?

I don't grasp it all, but I am starting to see listings that are part of a roll out of "managed payments?' program. I searched for something last night and found what I wanted at a fair price and I tried to buy it. But, on the next screen the message said that the seller was testing managed payments and I couldn't use Paypal??? Really? But, I like Paypal. It is easy, I have a Paypal balance, I have Paypal credit, all because of eBay. Now, I can't use it on this new program? C'mon eBay. You know what I did? Yep, back button.  Why re-invent the wheel? Profit?

Re: But, I like PayPal...

Thank you. That simple addition  to the search URL works great. I can now save embarassment for myself and the seller by not ending up in the checkout lane and removing a low dollar item from my cart. I will not scatter credit card information all over the internet for low dollar items. PayPal is convenient and so far pretty secure I am not in love with them.  I do not trust ebay to safeguard personal info...they sometimes even show recent purchases on my computer that I have never even viewed. When I have removed an item at check out because seller is participating in "managed payments" and not accepting paypal, I have always sent a message to seller that I removed it and why. I have no intention of using credit cards for small $$ purchases now or ever.

Re: But, I like PayPal...

Ditto!! I understand that the companies split, but jeez cutting us off from using PayPal can’t be good business sense for either of them...I am NOT giving ebay access to a debit card or bank acct info, that’s how they sold us on using PayPal, so we have additional protection & help with resolution of problems...and PayPal has our trust. Ebay Sellers have screwed me, but never has PayPal. There has got to be a way to transfer funds to a ebay seller using one of the many ways PayPal has to send/transfer money, only takes an email. It will not impact eBay, as a whole, if I stop buying from sellers that boycott PayPal, but there are so many more options for buyers now than just a few years ago...it may take a few more clicks to get an item using PayPal, but I am sticking with them. From now on anytime I see an eBay item I want to buy and the seller doesn’t accept PayPal, I use the contact seller link to tell them they lost a sale, I only use PayPal - then look for the item elsewhere. Well that’s my soapbox rant for the day😎 #My2Cents

This announcement from last summer is probably the replacement:

Re: But, I like PayPal...

I understand.  Some aren't comfortable without using Paypal.

When you see a listing you want to buy, check on the listing where the Paypal logo would appear.  It won't be there.  Paypal will not be listed as an option; credit cards that are taken will be shown.

Just want to mention, at present time, there is only a small percentage of sellers that are in Managed Payments.

Wonder how many of those are offshore sellers?

Very few if any, it's only been made available to US based sellers listing on .com.

eBay has stated that a second territory will be added soon but we don't as yet know which one.

Re: But, I like PayPal...

I would have thought with the push to be able to accept payments from offshore buyers that they couldn't before, it would have been "made available" to ANY seller selling on the dot com site.

Re: But, I like PayPal...

There would be likely be banking issues associated with that unless the foreign sellers had US based bank accounts (some do but not many).

The original users of Managed Payments was just a tiny number for testing purposes, eBay is now starting to increase that number but it's still going to be a long time before it's rolled out to all eBay Sellers and even longer before it is rolled out to all eBay sites.

It's only been one year since eBay publicly announced the program and 5 months months since the start of beta use. In addition there are still the complications of their separation agreement with PayPal that makes a faster switch impossible without huge financial penalties.

Personally while I'm anxious to get on board I'm happy they are taking the time to try to get it right. Hopefully it will all work out.

It isn't a silver bullet that will turn around eBay's anemic growth rate but it should certainly help to some extent.

That's true; and a slow roll out gives more time to perfect the system.

Just posted on EcommerceBytes

As I mentioned, part of the reason for the slow rollout....

eBay's Chief Financial Officer Scott Schenkel explained that the operating agreement with PayPal allows eBay to intermediate up to 5% of sales (GMV) between July 2018 - July 2019, and 10% between July 2019 and July 2020 across two markets.

Re: But, I like PayPal...

It wasn't broke, so eBay had to fix it.

Thank you, slippinjimmy!  I know you were right and that Ebay is limited as to how many they can convert at a time by the contract between them and Paypal.  I also think that this is an advantage as it gives Ebay time to refine the process~work the bugs out.
