Busy Work

That's what item specifics are all about. Many companies do that when they have no meaningful work for their employees (like shipping and listing in the case of ebay). I have been selling on ebay for 20 years and never received a question about these specifics to see the urgency to disrupt sales just before the holidays, I was planning on listing not editing 808 items.

Just a rant, don't need no advice please.

There were definitely sellers that came to the discussion boards wondering why they could not find their listings where the answer was that they had listed in the wrong category for the search terms they were using. Most likely there were many more than never tried searching the way that a potential customer might.

You could blame the category system or the automatic keyword-to-category search expansion for that, or at least eBay's failure to adequately document and advertise its operation.
