How would you respond if a blocked bidder contacts you asking why they can't buy or place best offer?
I have one that just contacted me on my other larger account and I gave a generic answer about users with unpaid item strikes being blocked automatically. They did not respond, which makes me wonder if they often don't pay. I blocked them because of a fraudulent return. I don't easily block users
Should I just not respond? That doesn't sit right with me either.
Looking for experienced sellers input

Don't get that question very often, but if I reply at all, it is to politely say that we must have had issues in the past and I am trying to avoid any issues. I would also point out to them that there are probably other sellers with similar items and wish them well in their search. I don't block bidders over silly questions or minor issues, there has to be a good reason.

Ditto with @upgradedendmills and yourself.
It is not very often that I block buyers, only if they have done something serious...usually my blocks come from them having too many UPI's.
...then again...I have also blocked potential buyers who have posted such a crazy over the top post here. They expect sellers to be way too over accommodating. I tend to look into their FB left for others and find that they are obviously difficult people to please - always finding SOMETHING to complain about in regards to purchases.
Thank God we do not come across too many of those here...but every once in a while these kinds of buyers show up here on the boards with some outrageous over the top demand they have for a seller and they really think that they are in the right...I am so happy that they post here so that I can put them on my BBL and avoid the chance of ever having to deal with them on a business level.
As you said in your post...you do not easily block users...so you obviously had a good reason to do so.

Your response seemed reasonable.
You may now know that there was a minor error in your ways.
If someone causes me stress on one account, they will not be doing it on my other account, or my wife's account.
Blocked on one, blocked on all.

You mean my error is not to block them across all accounts? Just trying to understand.
BTW, I sell completely different types of items that tend to draw different kind of users

Would be up to you, but for my $$'s, if the buyer would do a fraudulent return on one account they would not show the moral character as a buyer that I would want to see show up on my other account(s).
People have varied interests.
Strange/disheartening/alarming thing is that they would be able to find you on another account to ask about being blocked

No, they asked on the account I blocked them on. Sorry if my wording was confusing.
I meant that it wasn't on my posting ID
OK, explains how they found you:)
When I block an ID from buying, I also use the option to block communication. If selected, I believe communication blocking kicks in 30 days after sale, or last communication.

The communication block for those on your block buyer list can be found in Buyer Requirements, which can be found in your Account tab in My Ebay under Site Preferences. Here is a link on how to set that up.

No, they don't get any communication letting them know that.
If they are on your blocked buyers list, ignore and move on.
No reason to stir up a hornets nest.

No point in responding if you blocked them. Also as said above be sure to enable the setting that prevents blocked buyers from contacting you.
I never block them from communicating. I've learned all sorts of interesting things from having allowed blocked bidders to communicate - including their alternate buying IDs. Really angry BBLd buyers are apt to write all kinds of threats including that they are going to get their sister/brother/aunt/mom/uncle/neighbor to bid on my item if they can't. It's very helpful when the bid comes in from a different ID but the same zip code an hour later.
I have only ever told a buyer a very few times (fewer than 5) why I blocked them. I regretted each and every time so now I just either ignore them (if they were truly egregious) or write back and say "Gosh, that's odd. Perhaps eBay is glitchy today."

Do they get a message that their communication was blocked? Just wondering
I think that there is no contact button for them to contact you...it might be removed but I am not absolutely sure.
...Although I do not block them from messaging me...I just don't respond to them.
I like what @city*satins had to say about it on message #14. Great response! That is the same reason I have to do it...I want to see what is their reaction is to it all...
...I do love the... "write back and say "Gosh, that's odd. Perhaps eBay is glitchy today."...Never thought of that one! Excellent response...I'll have to remember that
