Bid Retraction Scam

Why is eBay letting buyers retract their bid with seconds left in an auction?? Scammers using two or three different accounts are jacking the bids up so high that no one else will outbid them then they retract their bid(s) with seconds left and WIN the item with their first bid which is always way below market value. This cheats the seller out of well deserved profit and it cheats Ebay out of money from the Final Value Fee. Unfortunately eBay is not doing anything about allowing theSE bid retractions as long as they are retracted within an hour from when they were made even if in the last 12 hours of an auction! This makes no sense and leaves the door wide open to devious buyers with bad intentions. I’ve personally been outbid by these people a dozen times in the last three months and reported most of them to eBay. These people are winning auctions left and right at amazingly low prices and screwing sellers daily but eBay won’t change this ridiculous policy that allows bid retractions in the last minute but they won’t allow you to retract a bid if placed within the last 12 hours of an auction if you wait more than an hour to retract your bid. It’s so obvious that all they need to do is NOT ALLOW ANY BID RETRACTIONS (BY THE BUYER) AT ALL WITHIN THE LAST 12 HOURS OF AN AUCTION!! You’re welcome eBay..

Re: Bid Retraction Scam

Stop listing auctions. Set up your listings as fixed-price, immediate payment required. That will solve everything you're complaining about in your post.

Re: Bid Retraction Scam

Perhaps reconsider how you list high priced items so that the starting price is high enough to discourage this type of fake bidding.  The other option is to use fixed price listings without unrealistic expectations to get people to overpay as if you were selling a house that gets multiple offers in less than 24 hours.

You can look to se if these fake bidders are just sellers messing with you.  A lot of people on ebay try to remove the competitions products to make their exact items more visible and plan to relist the item you sell them at a later date.

Re: Bid Retraction Scam

I don’t even use auctions to sell my products. I only sell using fixed price listings. I’m referring to bidding on items, which is the way many sellers still like to list their items. It’s also my favorite way to buy certain items on eBay plus it’s still a lot of fun to bid on things until these scams block all reasonable bidding. This has nothing to do with removing competitions products. I think you missed the point.

Re: Bid Retraction Scam

Maybe you didn’t read the post correctly. I’m not talking about items I’m selling being affected. (I only use fixed prices on all my items for sale.) I’m talking about bidding on other people’s auctions. And auctions on eBay in general. Many sellers still prefer to list this way. Thank you.

Good grief. Maybe I saw that you had posted this on the SELLING board. If you're posting as a buyer, you should've posted it on the BUYING board.

So now, here's my revised answer: Don't purchase through auctions anymore. Purchase only fixed-price listings.

SMH.
