I shipped an item to a customer and the delivery took more than a week. Ebay requested in a case that tracking be updated. The tracking number was put in the system when the item was shipped. The item showed "in transit but delayed" by USPS (Chicago USPS hub, which is in terrible shape). Then arbitrarily, Ebay, despite the "in-transit" clearly indicated in tracking awarded the buyer their money back. I had to call Ebay to get them to re-review the case. As it stands, they are not returning the money until the package shows as having been delivered, in other words, a kind of "escrow" has been instituted BY Ebay. I do not know if this is in the seller agreement. I am required to cover the funds in paypal in the interim as paypal paid this and is in a negative cash state.

If an INR was filed by the buyer just add the tracking into the case. Ebay will allow a certain time, not sure what that is currently, until that case will be closed in buyers favor if this shipment is really weakly late past the estimated date. I do not use USPS any more becuase of this stuff but when I did right before the Christmas disaster, I immediately got on USPS.COM and dodid a package research case Calle “where is my Package”. This can sometimes unstuck the package and get it on it’s way.

They will allow a 10 day extension if the tracking has shown recent movement. I had a couple in December that were in transit for nearly a month; when the buyer opened an INR I filed a package research case and that popped them loose, and eBay then closed the case in my favor because there was movement on the tracking.

@shallow_karl I'm sorry for your issue but you should read up on the TOS so that these types of situations won't hit you by surprise, and you can learn what your next actions should be. There is no "slightly late" delivery on this platform, a buyer can open an INR case once the expected date of delivery has passed. Sellers are held responsible for the delivery of their sold items. In transit doesn't mean anything, tracking has to show movement within a certain time frame or yes the INR case will close in the buyers favor.
It sounds like you spoke to one of the customer service reps, who may have exaggerated some truths to you. Typically once a buyer has been refunded for an INR case which shows no movement, they do not return the sellers money once it is delivered. You can find a plethora of threads on this forum about this. I do hope you do get your money returned once it is delivered, but it would almost be a first. Best of luck to you....

Concur with lamber......have not heard that will happen. They will expect the OP to cover that negative amount. unfortunately.
